What are these marks on the rear window?
There are marks on the inside of the rear window of my new Topaz. They are about 15 x 4cm. There is one on each side of the little window. They are on the inside, behind the plastic shower-room protection of the tailgate. It looks like the black window paint has lifted.
What is it, has anyone seen it before, can I fix it?
many thanks

Looks to me like someone has removed stickers none too carefully

But they are on the INSIDE, behind a big plastic moulding?

Stickers are usually stuck on the inside.JPCoetzee wrote:But they are on the INSIDE, behind a big plastic moulding?

It's only my guess, but it does look like stickers have been there as frank says.
The shape is too uniform to be anything else.
My guess is that the film that has been put on the glass has lifted where the stickers have been 'pulled' off.
I would suggest that the only cure would be to have the windows refilmed.

They can't be stickers - as the OP says, you can't get to the inside there to put stickers on!
My guess is that A-S used gaffa tape for some purpose onto the blackout coating and the adhesive has caused damage to it as it has dried out. Not easy to rectify, unfortunately.

Irrespective of how they got there, if as you say its a new Topaz then aske the supplying dealer to remove the marks.

Yes it's the right size for gaffa tape! it will be quite a while before I get round to removing the internal fixings, but I will look out for that.
Can the windows be repainted?

it's new to me, but it's a 2000 Topaz bought privately.

I'm afraid that the ONLY cure is to pull of the old tint-film & replace it, or get a window tint guy to do it for you, Ive done several over the years, but
my efforts are nowhere nearly as good as the 'proper' guys
IMPORTANT, once off, use thinners to remove all traces of the duct-tape adhesive & clean with meths prior to the re-film.

Re: What are these marks on the rear window?
If it's the same as my '99 van, it's not a tint film. I'm fairly sure that they mask up the area to remain clear and then spray a black coating over the rest. The result is not a tint but complete blackout.
It would be worth speaking to A-S to see if that's correct and, if so, what product they use. Sadly it probably won't be possible to "patch" the affected area.

I stand corrected, didn't know of that process, only tinted glass.

Re: What are these marks on the rear window?
Mojo is spot on, A/S used a paint on the glass. I had a problem on a 98 Topaz where the heated element in the rear window had caused the paint to break down. I ended up stripping down the tailgate and removing the paint, (carefully so as not to damage the window heater). I then used film to black out the window and cut out the section in the middle. Not easy as MM says, but can be done. I'm not a pro but felt the result was pretty good. It's a real must to clean the window of all residue and don't fit the film on a damp day or one that is really hot.
