Auto Sleeper Build No's
Just a quick one folks. Not sure how many of you are aware but it would seem that being able to rely on your van build no to get information from Auto Sleepers is now not always possible.
I emailed Alan a while back and it would seem that the records for my 99 Harmony have been deleted and the build no reused for a ford ravenna
He assured me that it is perfectly normal to "re use" build no's. The moral of the story? Get your info while you still can before your van morphs into something else
I wouldnt mind but its not like she is 25 years old or anything

Ha!
Methinks this could open up all sorts of possibilities for the eBay scammers.
Makes origin of 'vans even more difficult to trace!
Bad move AS.

Bearing in mind i bought mine on ebay you can imagine how much i panicked when i was told she wasnt on the system. I did have a very reassuring reply tho saying she was genuine and that its not unusual for them to be re used. But yes its gonna make authenticating things VERY difficult

Re: Auto Sleeper Build No's
If you have a look at this previous thread, you will see that by quoting the build number I was able to get all the info I wanted. That vehicle was a 2000, so it would be a pity that anything before then is no longer available...

Re: Auto Sleeper Build No's
My Symphony is a 1997. I've never asked about my build number, perhaps I ought to see if there are any records available but if we all did that, poor Alan at AS would never get any work done. (Actually when I rang about that slightly iffy one and asked for Alan, the swichboard operator asked 'which Alan' , I hadn't a clue and just asked for the one who knows everything about Autosleepers)

The fire was in October 1992. I'm very suprised at the suggestion that a Build Number would be re-used. My first van was a '99 Duetto and they had all the records for that.

Can I ask how long ago you enquired about the 99 Duetto Peter? I have to say Im still suprised that people with much older vans than mine have been posting on here that they recieved all build info. I certainly dont class a 99 van as "old" I would of thought they should expect at least 15 years before a file was deleted (unless of course it was a mishap and was deleted in error) Either way im no closer to knowing what pattern my fabric is

Build Numbers
I made enquiries regarding my 1998 build Harmony in October 2011 and got quite a lot of info, quite shocking as I found out that whilst we originally put on the road as first owners in April 1999, it actually went through AS QC in June 1998 !!
I tried to ring Alan last week about something but got no answer from his phone.

Hmmm given the fact that I was only a few months shy of the same length of time in between your build and enquiry (98-11) (99-13, but only just) Im even more miffed mine has been re used

Auto Sleeper Build nos.
I'm still surprised as Harmony's are prefixed with an 'H' , presumably a Ravenna would be prefixed with an 'R' ?

Perhaps the 'H' is coincidental that it's attached to a Harmony ? I can't remember the build numbers for my Executive and Dorset as I didn't keep copies of old records -Doh!

Re: Auto Sleeper Build No's
Maybe the letter refers to the year? My Symphony build number begins with a 'G'. It's a 1997.

Mines K
Ordered for collection in December 1999, registered 1st Jan 2000 (sat on the drive until then)
So K would be November, which seems about right to me.
Made a part enquiry last year and build number was good!

Seems to be borne out by mine - late '99 and starts with a K.

Re: Auto Sleeper Build No's
I’ve been to the factory today and ascertained the following re build numbers.
P = Panel Van
J = Short Wheel Base Coachbuilt
K = Medium or Long Wheel Base Coachbuilt
C = Caravan
The numbers are serial numbers allocated sequentially as build numbers when the base vehicle chassis is ordered.

That must be the current method - as said above we have panel vans with G,H,K and a coachbuilt with R.

I was told today that is the method used since start of production - its never changed. Any other prefix was not added by AS.
