limp mode
engine goes into limp mode when driven hard over 4k rpm. v/w diagnose turbo over boost caused by v/vanes
sticking. to fix new turbo cost about £1000k,
removed turbo dismantled, cleaned out soot and refiitted, easy, now perfect

Goes to show that there is no such thing as repair nowadays, just replace.

I meant a dealer will only replace whereas Don stripped it down to fix.

Did you block off the EGR valve at the same time? In many engine designs this is the sole source of soot in the turbo...
[Edit: Actually I think I'm wrong there, as I think the EGR valve may come ~after~ the turbo typically!]
