Peugeot Airbag failed
After our last 10 day trip the air bag /seat belt tensioner sensor failed to communicate on the vehicle Can-Bus causing an error light on the consul and a message saying the air bag was off. The sensor is a small 10cm square box bolted to the floor close up to the central consul. It didn’t stop us using the van but the air bags were not active. I disconnected the unit and sent it to Crash Data Ltd who were excellent in checking it out the first day they got it and because it couldn’t be repaired sent a replacement by return and credited the cost of checking the damaged unit against the new part which made and expensive part a bit less of a financial hit. The sensor failure seems to be a pretty common with Boxer and the Fiat equivalent vans from the number of posts online. Hoping the problem is now solved as the new part appears to have a different part number to the failed unit despite looking identical and immediately solved the issue. Interestingly the fault didn’t show up as an error code on the OBD interface. I have now bought a cheap (£12) blue tooth iCAR Pro scan OBD port reader plug that I leave in place. This allows me to read any error codes as well as a load of real time engine data on the car scanner app on my phone or iPad without having to keep removing the access panel on the right-hand side of the consul below the steering column. Not critical but its nice to read it and see everything is OK before we set off on a longer trip.
Hope this might help someone with a similar problem.

The airbag ECU fault is a fairly common fault reported on the forum. Crashdata is well known to the forum , there are others that have been used. The OBD port scanner is interesting.

Re: Peugeot Airbag failed
Hi I have had the same issue on my Kemerton XL. I also used Crash data to reset the airbag unit I sent them but had to send it back to them again when the fault didn’t clear. The second time all seamed fine but a few weeks later it crashed again. I hope the replacement unit you now have will fix the issue. I will have to get the Peugeot dealers replace mine when it goes in for a service & MOT next. Likely I expect to be £400-480.
I would be interested in any reader that can show/clear faults on a Peugeot Boxer 2016 as I have tried two which purported to be compatible but weren’t.

Re: Peugeot Airbag failed
The OBD scanner I use is an iCAR PRO SCAN Bluetooth 4.0 ELM 327 OBD2 Car Diagnostic Scanner for Android and iOs cost £12.50 off eBay (I see it’s now increased to £15!) and coupled it with a free app called Car Scanner on my iPad. Works fine and gives lots of data as well as being able to reset some error codes. Of course, resetting a system error code doesn’t necessarily make the problem go away as it will return if the problem is anything other than a system glitch but useful when the problem has been addressed. The advantage is that its small enough to be left permanently in the ODB socket when the inspection cover is replaced. (left of the steering column on a Boxer van).

Re: Peugeot Airbag failed
After Crashdata repaired/reset my ECU the fault has returned. I sent a photo of the unit to my nearest Peugeot dealer but they say they can’t identify the part (although the photo shows serial number etc)
Might just replace this myself. Does anybody know the latest ECU that fits and will hopefully be ok?

Mine failed at the beginning of this year, a firm near Derby replaced something inside the original box and gave the repair a lifetime guarantee. This is it:

The new replacement sensor module supplied last month by Crashdata Limited and now fitted to our 2019 Symbol van is 00046858203 / 46858203 FIAT DUCATO CITROEN RELAY AND PEUGEOT BOXER Airbag Module (taken off their invoice)
Hope that helps.

Re: Peugeot Airbag failed
Ive persevered with my airbag fault since May last year. It has a intermittent fault, illuminated now and again on vehicle dash. Easily removed by the auto-electrician with his OBD code reader and sometimes for a longish period of time. Eventually I will need to make up my mind to either have the ECB unit repaired and hope that will cure the fault, or go for an updated new unit. In either case I assume the cause of fault will still need to be found/repaired.
Code reader intermittent fault codes identified as: B012 [ECU connection to earth fault] and B0127 [seat belt not fastened switch fault]
Airbag module part no: 01370978080
Advice/observation will be appreciated.

Re: Peugeot Airbag failed
There is an extra earth connection shown in a previous thread, I'll see if I can find it.
Found it....

Thanks Paul. Much appreciated. Hope fitting an extra earth connection does the trick - at least for one of the airbag faults.
