Broadway exhaust pipe
Hi All,
Can anyone tell me why the exhaust pipe is so low to the ground on my motorhome?
Sometimes when wild camping on a field, I'm extremely cautious about grounding it. Never done it yet, but it is a concern
Question is, can this be raised without causing any MOT issues? There's a clearance of at least 4 inches from the underside of the bodywork.
Regardss

I don't know for a fact and maybe someone who does will be along shortly but my reasoned guess is that if your hab area floor is wood (as my Pollensa is) then there may be a minimum gap designed to prevent damage from the hot exhaust pipe.

Mmmm, good point, not thought of that!
Surely a heat shield could be fitted to prevent this?

Have you checked underneath that all the hangers are in place and sound? Long time since I looked closely at a vehicle exhaust but I seem to recall they were sometimes hung on rubber straps, which can fail.

Good point! They fail so often on my old Pollensa I now keep a stock of the different types and some fitting tools on board. The Bargee wrote:Have you checked underneath that all the hangers are in place and sound? Hi,
Yes, checked and all ok with straps etc.
I guess it must be the chassis design, I've looked at other models and they too have a very low slung exhaust.

Broadway exhaust pipe
Hi All
I thought I would update this post.
Yesterday I took the van into our local exhaust specialist for his opinion. He said that the reason why the tail pipe is so long (18") is because it is the standard off the shelf length and if you cut it, you need to then expand one end to fit over the exhaust pipe.
He said it was unlikely a coachbuilder would have such equipment as they are very expensive and therefore they would have just fitted the full length pipe.
He has cut this down to about 8" from the original 18" and I must say it looks amazing and also I have gained so much more ground clearance.
You can see from my original post how ugly and precarious the original pipe was.
Only cost £30.00

Whilst your issue is not something that affects me ,I like it when posters update when the question has a conclusion. It will be of interest to many I am sure and how we all learn something.
Agree the modified tail pipe looks much better than as fitted.
