Autosleeper Montana Problems
Hi guys having a problem with our 97 Mercedes Vito 113 2ltr petrol injection.
1, We are getting what seems to be a small fuel odour, only present whilst travelling with the driver window open. No smells internally when shut and no smell externally when parked engine running or stopped the only thing I can think of is a fuel injector. ????
2, We also get occasionally a small rattle front drivers side. I am aware of a lot of work carried out on bearings drive shaft etc prior to recent purchase. Maybe anti roll bar??
If I take it in for a Major Service will these problems be identified, alternatively should I spend money on having these problems investigated and resolved??
Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks Roy.

Fuel a concern, especially petrol.
Suspension knock could well be antiroll bar links
If it needs a service, then get at least oil and filter, gearbox oil and all air filters.
Tell the garage doing it of the other problems, get those investigated same time.
That's what I'd do anyway!

Agree with Ian as a service won’t automatically pick up the two issues unless you ask for them to be checked.

I personally don't think it's very likely that a fuel injector fault would cause you to be able to smell fuel, unless the injector was actually physically loose in the head. Any over-fuelling from the injector would end up with excessive fuel in the exhaust - you wouldn't smell it at the driver's window. I would be looking at the supply/return pipework and the connections on the fuel filter, fuel pump and tank.

Re fuel smell, had a full service however the mechanic Was unable to solve the prob.
Two days later had the fridge serviced happen to mention the fuel smell and was informed upon pickup a new Fuel Filler cap will solve the pro. Today picked up a new cap from Mercedes Wolverhampton (£70.00) worth every penny no more fuel smells.
Thanks again for all your help
Roy.

£70!! Hard luck.
Mine was a tenth of that for the Vito from the local Merc dealership.
Glad it’s sorted.

A6388200442? To be honest, the best bet is either to get access and check the old one for marked part numbers, or Google it for yourself, because you know the exact spec of the van and we don't!
