Awning for VW Trophy 1994
Hi
We have just purchased the above and have been on our first ever trip
During our 5 day trip we found out pretty quick that we needed some more space
I have looked on line at a number of Drive away awnings and have read a few reviews some of which were awful
We do not want to make a mistake by buying the wrong one
If there is anyone who has the same vehicle or the same type and can offer advice we would be most grateful
Look forward to your replies
Size we want is about 3mtrs x 2.5 mtrs
John and Trudie

Are you sure you really need a drive-away? We use either a utility tent such as the one in my avatar photo or a small dome tent for storage and leaving chairs, water containers etc when we go off site.

Hi I agree with Paul, we have a drive awning, and although it fine, and does not give any problems, a tent would probably do a better job. Connecting to the van seems like a good idea, but unless it is connected correctly, you have a problem when it rains as the joint is not always watertight, and putting it up correctly seems to take longer than putting up a tent.
I can not really see the benefit of the awning, a tent offers much more flexibility, and if you have to walk 2 meters in the rain from the tent to the van, just have another glass of wine until the rain eases off
My awning came with the van, but having used both an awning and a tent, give me the tent any time, the down side is that some site owners charge for a tent, but not an awning
If you go for the tent, the choice is also much greater.

Never been charged for either size tent as long as it stays within pitch boundaries. I would think only those sites that charge extra for an awning would charge for a tent. Certainly the two major clubs do not charge for a pup tent on their sites.

Hi John
we have a 1994 Trophy, we use an awning called an "Outhouse Handi" by Outdoor Revolution, approx 6.5 ft square with an approx 3ft wide canopy which attaches to the side of van it is not a "perfect fit" (very few are) but it is big enough for a table and two chairs and also doubles as a garage for the two bikes.
we bought it a Motorhome show and comes with carbon fibre poles, pegs and a groundsheet

The utility tent in my avatar is the Outdoor Revolution Outhouse XL, same as the Handi without the joining tunnel. It's for sale if anyone is interested as we find our small dome tent sufficient for our needs.
