Custom Air off grid
Purchased Custom Air last year and went for a tour around Cornwall. One of our first sites was on a farm with no EHU and we were there for two nights. During the second night the whole system shut down as the battery was "running low". TBH, I cannot remember how much lights/water pump we used, the fridge was on during the entire stay. The weather was half decent, however our solar panel was not really in the sun all day.
We want to go off grid again but are now worried that we won't be able to do two days. Is two days too ambitious or do we just need to take all the precautions, such as, cool down the fridge before leaving home, make sure solar panel is in the sun, turning the fridge temperature down?
We have 60Ah battery with 60W solar panel (not ideal, I suppose).
Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

A 60Ah battery (Lead acid?) at 50% will only give 30Ah in real terms and a 60W solar panel is useful but not the biggest to begin with. I’m guessing a compressor fridge which is great on 12v but will still be the biggest drain on your battery.
2 days IMO is pushing things to the limit but as you mention there are ways to help. I used to freeze ice blocks in the freezer during the day, then turn off the fridge from say 8pm till 8am with the frozen blocks in the fridge overnight.
Also getting the fridge down to temperature by plugging in at home before a trip also helped. Every little thing helps as they say!
Have you considered increasing the battery size? If it is a LA then they are not expensive if it fits your space. Lithium obviously is a different proposition.

Re: Custom Air off grid
Just had a look, it is TN Power 60W lithium ion battery, with Dometic CRX50.
What would be more beneficial, upgrading the battery to say 100Ah (I am reasonably confident it will fit) or upgrading solar panel to say 150W?
Thank you so much for answers, this is all new to me, love the basic off the grid campsites but just not sure 2 nights are feasible with the current setup.

Personally, bigger battery with biggest solar panel I could fit
Don’t forget to check if the solar controller can handle it if you do upgrade.

Re: Custom Air off grid
We have 130W solar and a 110Ah lead acid LB
We never have power issues and rarely use EHU.
Our electrical needs are, I'd say, average and now we have a 12vdc only fridge.....

With your new 12v fridge Ian, you will probably have to keep an eye on things a bit more but I’m sure your setup will cope easily. Look forward to hearing how it works out on your upcoming trip

Been running a week now David, not seen LB volts below 12.5 with it actually running. Rapid recovery to 12.7 when t'stat cuts it off. This trip will be the proof!!

So did mine when we had this ones predecessor. But, also used a lot of gas over 3 week trips, hence this one. Can also be left running on ferries too...

For the type of camping I do, gas also works very well. The Custom Air doesn’t have a gas/3 way fridge though so in this instance it’s not an option.

Oh ok sorry I didn't know. It's invaluable having a 3 way fidget systemDbvwt wrote:

No need to apologise, both types are great IMO depending on your setup
I see you are just down the road, not many of us in these parts!
