External water inlet pump
Good afternoon to you all, I am looking for some advice on the whale pump that pulls water in from a container from outside the van. I have tested the pump on a separate battery and it works. Obviously the power in the van is not working but I have checked the fuses and all seem okay. The power does not seem to be reaching the area (tested with a multimeter)under the sofa bed where all the pipes converge from the outside, if this makes sense. Is there a switch I have missed or known problem that might solve the issue. Many thanks for your help. Mark

Are you able to use the hose connected to a mains tap? If this also doesn’t work it could be the tank float is stuck in the full position.

I assume you have an EC500 power control system rather than the EC700 I have but the principles are broadly the same. On the EC700 the PSU must be on (shutdown button in) and the power button on the control panel must also be on as must the autofill button. If the tank is not full, power should then reach the Whale filler socket which can be confirmed by testing the voltage on its external brass contacts. If there is no power, it could be a connector on the back of the inlet socket that has become detached (but it sounds as though you have checked that) or the float switch in the freshwater tank isn't working properly. It could also be a relay in the EC500 that has failed.
Just seen Biker51's comments. If the mains hose connection works and the solenoid valve on the inside beneath the Whale inlet socket hasn't been removed, power is getting to the Whale inlet socket.

Hi thanks for the reply Caraman. Yes a EC500 and I have checked everything. No power to the area at all. I can just assume a relay in the 500 as everything else, float etc seems okay. Is that a fix do you know?

I wouldn't know where to start if its a relay. Let's see what others say.Mark&Heather wrote:Hi thanks for the reply Caraman. Yes a EC500 and I have checked everything. No power to the area at all. Re: External water inlet pump
If there is a bad connection with the float switch that would also account for it. Sometimes they are just spade connectors with a bit of insulation tape and exposed to all the muck and wet off the road. My level sensors were and had bad connections until I cleaned them up. I believe power should go from the EC500 to the float switch and if the tank isn't full probably back to the EC500 and then to the Whale inlet socket. My EC700 doesn't have the float switch and relies instead on the freshwater tank level sensors.
