MIRROR PROTECTORS Empty MIRROR PROTECTORS

Post by Nickroddrake Fri May 24, 2024 2:57 pm

Hi All,

Has anyone had dealings with Mirrorshield for their mirrors.  What is the best to purchase, people seem to like Mirror Guard.

Thank you for any help..

Can't answer that question but it is a common mistake not to make sure the folding mechanism is well greased.I have never used mirror guards and have been clipped a couple of times with no damage whatever.

I don't understand them really.
Here's why...

The already large mirrors are made even bigger, so a bigger target to be hit. If they are hit what then happens? Do the protectors get damaged or, in a bigger hit, the mirrors also?

Our unprotected mirror was hit on the last trip, we stopped and recovered the broken bit and glued it back into place.

As GH says be sure they fold into the parked position easily, ours are exercised a bit as we always fold them on ferries or, indeed on streets...

Thanks for your replies,   yes maybe as you say they make a bigger target.

I will have a think and a touch of wd40  will help as you say,

Thanks

Undoubtedly lubricate the mirror bracket, with a high-slip grease or other appropriate lubricant.

My MirrorGuard was clouted recently. The mirror glass was dislodged, but kept from falling out by the wire. Some of the mounting claws were damaged, but I managed to still the glass back in. It fell out again when I tried to adjust the angle electrically. Again I stuffed it back, and took the precaution of using some Gorilla-Glue clear sticky waterproof tape (a great product) to ensure that if the glass were to fall out again, it would be secured by the tape. Too mean to buy a new mirror!

Not WD-40 as Cymro says you need a proper grade.
