Fibreglass gel coat repair
Not sure if this is simply weather related, I have certainly not used any suspect chemicals on it.
Is this easily repaired taking account of the positioning of it of course.

Re: Fibreglass gel coat repair
Thought the roof in panel van conversions was the original Peugeot roof therefore will be metal

That's a normal L3H3 Seval built body shell, all steel.
Look I SEARCH, lots in there re topcoat paint not agreeing with primer on those

This is definitely a fibreglass addition to the H2 roof, the base van is L2H2. In any case the roof is certainly not metal.IanH wrote:That's a normal L3H3 Seval built body shell, all steel.

Re: Fibreglass gel coat repair
There was a period when AS added the high roof before reverting to the all metal high top. This also corresponded with the floor being level throughout or the floor having step down from cab.

That figures, as my van is the flat floor with the newer ones having a step up to the cab.Paulmold wrote:There was a period when AS added the high roof before reverting to the all metal high top. This also corresponded with the floor being level throughout or the floor having step down from cab.

It was 2008 to 2013 that they added the fibreglass roof. It was cheaper to use the all metal roof so they switched back - according to Practical Motorhome.mag.

Oops, didn't spot the extension roof, apologies.
As to repairs, all dead easy, but the hard, and expensive bit will be colour matching the repair to the existing roof paint. I can just hear my body specialist now saying he'd have to do the whole roof!
Try a car body shop .
Also it's 11 yrs old now so touch up spray wouldn't work, even worse metallic, so might be whole roof.

Re: Fibreglass gel coat repair
Its the clear lacquer they put on over the paint. I have heard that it stems from the time the started using water based stuff.
Our Topaz 2008/9 is showing the same and the frost does not help as the water gets under the degraded lacquer and looseness it.
I removed all the loose stuff trying not to mark the under lying paint and am now wondering what to do. I have applied a coat of good polish to the areas and wondering if a 'silver' vinyl wrap like that applied to police vehicles might be the way to go other than a complete strip (costly) or a touch up with lacquer by a professional.
Any informed info appreciated.

I have emailed pics to a local motorhome bodywork specialist to get their opinion on what is required and a possible estimate to put right.frederic wrote:Its the clear lacquer they put on over the paint. I have heard that it stems from the time the started using water based stuff.

If it is too outlandish I will probably remove the loose stuff then buff the area with a good polish.
Thing is, it looks fine in the rain, but is highlighted more when the weather is dry and sunny. As I live in Lancashire where it rains more often than not it is not such a big deal for now.

Graphics
Whilst talking about the paint work, are your graphics peeling too andyfal? As I said earlier, I have exactly the same van as you and on one side the graphic stripes on driver door and front wing are peeling, as well as the paint in various places. Do you or anyone else on here know where I could get these strips to replace the peeling ones, I’m also missing one on driver’s side above the side windows. I’ve had the van three weeks and it was all like that when I bought it.

The graphics on mine are ok, other than a little faded they are still very much attached. I would imagine a google search may turn up some vehicle graphics suppliers. You may be able to contact AS who might have the design files for you to supply to a company or they may be able to supply the actual graphics. No harm in trying, I would be interested to know how you get on.

If AS can't supply, a decent vehicle graphics company should be able to copy and supply and some will even remove the old and apply the new for you.

I don't imagine your graphics will be a stock item but they may be able to reproduce them for you.

That’s great, many thanks Andy. Just had another thought. The Dorset was a Marquis special and the graphics are different from the Symbol which is Autosleeper. Do you think Marquis would help? I’ll maybe call them tomorrow but just thinking in the meantime 🧐 Jules

Re: Fibreglass gel coat repair
It won't hurt to try them, they may be able to source the graphics or advise where to try.
I am not sure if the graphics are much different to the Symbol other than the actual wording and the Marquis logo. The lines etc look to be very similar at first sight, although I haven't compared them up close.
If they are the same you will stand a much better chance of sourcing stock items than having to have them redrawn by a third party.
