V5 document registration
Hi I have a new 2024 Kingham purchased in early March. I haven’t received my V5 yet so contacted the DVLA to get an update as I have a trip to France booked in the next few weeks. The DVLA say they have no record of the registration application, my dealer says they do not register the vehicle, AS register the vehicle and it can take up to 3 months for them to do it. Is this the experience of other AS owners

Re: V5 document registration
It was the dealer’s responsibility to register it when I bought mine. It‘s a manual paper based form filling process. It took 5 weeks to get my V5C back, and yours may be longer, because March is one of the busiest months for new registrations. And until a couple of days before it arrived, the registration number wasn’t recognised on the DVLA website. The application might still be in their queue. They probably wouldn’t have a record of the application until it has been processed.

It’s all done online these days and it’s always been the dealer's responsibility every time I’ve bought a new or used MH.
Btw, don't forget to update your profile.

When you say “these days”, are you aware that there was no online first registration for motor caravans only 3 years ago. There’s a lot of paperwork which needs to be produced.Tinwheeler wrote:It’s all done online these days and it’s always been the dealer's responsibility every time I’ve bought a new or used MH.

Re: V5 document registration
I picked my new van up on the 21st may 21 and when the paperwork came through it was first registered on the 21st June 21.
Have to use the may date for warranty and June for everything else.

Re: V5 document registration
I'm curious - guessing the dealer has a pre-allocated bunch of reg no's so the vehicle will show a reg no plate, but if it's not actually registered at DVLA how can the vehicle be taxed and/or insured?

Re: V5 document registration
we it was taxed and insured, I went into hospital a week after picking it up and was more concerned about the paperwork than I was about the quadruple heart bypass operation i was waiting for.lol
I got the paperwork the day I went down for the opp.
When I tried to register the van with my Fiat the registration came back as a 1973 talbot express, mut admit, if it was it had kept well.

Re: V5 document registration
It can be taxed with a copy of the paperwork at the time it is submitted, I imagine. I wasn't very happy with the situation, and was relieved when the V5C turned up. It was about 5 weeks later.rogerblack wrote:I'm curious - guessing the dealer has a pre-allocated bunch of reg no's so the vehicle will show a reg no plate, but if it's not actually registered at DVLA how can the vehicle be taxed and/or insured?

gavt, your dealer is talking bo11ocks. It's their job to register the vehicle, and yes, they usually have a pre-determined list of registrations to choose from (usually just the last three letters). V5 has always arrived with me within 2-4 weeks.
This does not bode well if your dealer is telling you this!
