LED lights Empty LED lights

Post by Johnandkerry Thu Feb 22, 2024 11:54 pm

We have a 2002 2.0td  autosleeper boxer Symbol, which still has fluorescent light tubes, some years ago on another van I changed the lights to LED By of gutting the circuitry and leaving the switch. Since then I have thought about changing the Symbol to led, do I have to strip out the circuitry or can I leave it and connect LED strips.  Thanks in anticipation

You have to remove the ballast.  Fluorescent tubes don't use a lot of power so wonder if it's worth it .

As Paul says, not a lot of power saving (unlike halogen lamps) because fluorescents are nearly as efficient as LEDs - but you do get the advantage of no warm-up time, and it's easier (in my experience) to get warm white LEDs than to get warm white small fluorescent tubes (assuming you prefer warm white to cold white - not all people do).
