Symbol Water ingress
Hello members,
Hopefully someone can help me!
I am a new member and owner of a beloved 2005 Symbol. The van is in great condition and I have had two years of trouble free fun in it until a troublesome leak raised its head!! The leak manifests at the top or the windscreen on both sides. I doesn't leak all the time? It doesn’t leak when stationary at all. It leaks when driving and in heavy rain and when I brake or go down hills. And when it leaks if pours in !!
I have spoken with AS who suggested checking , resealing the roof fix points under the black finishing band, which I have done which made no difference!
Does anyone have any thoughts please??
Thanks
Regards Graham

Re: Symbol Water ingress
As a Temporary fix you could try captain Tolley's creeping crack cure (I kid you not) I used it once many years ago on a leak I could not find and it fixed it.
Search for it,

Hi Graham,
I've had a similar problem on 2 hi tops and cured the leak by removing the 2 front black plastic gutter screws, squeezing in some Captain Tolleys creeping crack cure and then resetting the screws. be careful not to get any non the windscreen as its a devil to remove !
Hope this helps.

Great fan of Capt Tolly, but as you rightly say don't let it get, especially, on paintwork, I now mask everything below anywhere it can escape from!!. On the other hand if it sticks to glass and paint as well as it does, it should have no problems where its meant to be!!

Re: Symbol Water ingress
We had a 2002 Symbol with lots of water coming in from somewhere in the front. Eventually found that the windscreen, although it looked OK to the eye, was the problem. Found the cause by using a hose on full pressure and testing certain points of the van over a number of days.
I took it to an auto glass shop. They removed the windscreen and cleaned, resealed and refitted the original windscreen. Think it was about £60 (some years ago...)
They did say that there was a risk that the windscreen could break on removal but we got lucky on that one. No problems after that.
Good luck!

Thankyou all for your advice.
A question for you Andyh: Did yours drip down from behind the head lining? Mine pours in sometimes when I brake of corner as if it is collecting somewhere which is why I discarder the windscreen. Just interested in how your leaks manifested?

Can't remember exactly but it just seemed to pool in the passenger footwell! I couldn't locate the source until I put the hose on the van.Graham Walker wrote:Thankyou all for your advice.

Re: Symbol Water ingress
I hope you manage to resolve youre leak. Our Duetto had to have the n/s top corner joint re sealed. When the body work was repaired they found the n/s door pillar was full of water causing it to rust from the inside.
At some time the pillar was repaired blocking any water from running down inside it. The repairer said it was unusual for the leak not to show inside. Maybe the Duetto top had a different joint.

Water ingress top NS above windscreen.
I have a 2021 Auto Sleeper Symbol purchased in June 2021 from Marquis.
I noticed a water leak in Feb this year. The van is till under a Marquis warranty. They investigated and told me the windscreen seal was leaking and it was down to Peugeot to fix as it was not on the habitation side of the van. Peugeot main dealer followed Marquis suggested fix only to find that there was nothing wrong with the seal they removed or the windscreen. They fitted a new seal and performed their own tests and concluded the van was leaking from higher up the roof. This pass the buck process from Marquis has delayed the fix and meanwhile damp and mold is spreading in the ceiling cab upholstery.
I've noticed that water does not drain off the roof when the van is level due to the sky light fittings. I'm now waiting for a response from Marquis on how they intend to find the leak and fix it under their promised warranty

Re: Symbol Water ingress
Been there, got the T shirt with my Harmony gearbox back in the early naughties.
It seems to me to be the gutter fixing above the screen. It can be sealed by removing the plastic screws and squirting in some Captain Tolleys creeping crack cure.
BUT, as the windscreen seal was not at fault its a dealer issue under warranty in my view.
