External gas point Empty External gas point

Post by DeeCee Mon Jan 15, 2024 2:54 pm

Hi

We have a 2012 Autosleeper Stratford. I believe the vehicle is a Peugeot Boxer van, 5.4m long with a sliding door. I'd like to have an external gas point fitted so that we can cook outside and wondered if anyone else with the same vehicle has had one fitted? The van has an underslung gas tank and the filler cap is located on the same side as the sliding door. The van is SORN'd at the moment so we can't take it to a workshop but I'm curious to find out if this can be done.  [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Definitely can be done! Most conversions should be able to accommodate it.

I'm surprised that it doesn't have one as standard. The only reason I can guess as to why it doesn't is that normally the external tap is linked to the supply of the fridge and the Stratford doesn't have a gas fridge. But I see no reason why you can't get one put on.

I am sure that an external point could be fitted, but any work carried out on the installation might trigger a suggestion for overall system testing, including testing of the bulk tank, which could be a shock to the budget although at 10+ years old it certainly needs thinking and planning for, if the tank has not been tested or replaced recently. Any professional person doing “work” on an installation has a duty of care to leave the system safe.

Thanks for all your replies and hopefully you're all correct, although that's a fair point about testing the gas system. I was thinking it would be more cost effective and convenient than gas canisters/cylinders. We'll see....

It can certainly be done, I had an external BBQ point fitted to my last motorhome.  On the latest AS van conversions they are fitted to the nearside, right at the back, so with the sliding door open fully, you can access it.

Best fitted under the awning and, most important, get it fitted by a fully qualified technician with the right qualifications and who gives you an invoice/receipt.

Ah thanks Rocky. that's what I wanted to hear. This place is a mine of useful information. Cheers for this. Yes, will definitely need to get a qualified person to do the work -  don't want to run any risks with gas.
