Broadway EK External BBQ Gas Point
Hi,
I've just tried to fire up my CADAC Safari Chef 2 using the external BBQ point on my Broadway EK but it failed to light. I couldn't hear or smell any gas so I checked the gas isolator switch was in the correct position - it was. I forced air through the flexible hose to confirm that gas was flowing to and through the control switch to the gas head - it was. Piezo switch provides a spark. I've scanned the AS Broadway handbook but cannot find anything in the Fault Finding tables to assist, so help from anyone who has had a similar problem would be appreciated.
Thanks

Yes, it's on the end of the flexi hose and connects to the female socket of the external bbq point.

Do all the other gas appliances work?

Re: Broadway EK External BBQ Gas Point
This sounds too obvious, but try removing the connector from the hose, insert it into the BBQ point and turn on the switch.
You will know at once if the gas is flowing strongly.
You may have done this already, but I don't think you've said as much. This test will tell you if the problem is with the gas supply or the Cadac. I assume you're confident the jet in the Cadac burner isn't partially blocked?

Re: Broadway EK External BBQ Gas Point
You don't give the year of your Broadway so it may have been built before the external BBQ point was fitted as standard?
If it was fitted during manufacture, AS consider the tap on the BBQ point as the isolation point and do not route the gas via the manifold with the other gas control taps on. It is possible therefore that the BBQ point wasn't connected to the gas supply. You will have to trace the pipe to check.

Re: Broadway EK External BBQ Gas Point
Peter,
Thank you. It was manufactured 2013 and, as far as I understand, the BBQ point was fitted during manufacture. I have used the CADAC previously with no problem at all. The vehicle has also just had its annual habitation service done and I wonder if during the test something has been switched on/off. I'll check this morning to find out.

Where was the check done? Leaving circuits switched off is often an issue with checkers.

The service was carried out at Tilshead Caravans an authorised workshop/dealer. I'll touch base with them to see if they can help. Thanks

If its like mine - then it is a Tee off the fridge gas pipe feed which does have its own isolation valve and this may have been turned off during the Cab service.Peter Brown wrote:maj_069 wrote:. How interesting - no such separate isolation valve on my 2015 Nuevo; all appliances run off pipes which are isolated only by the tap in the wardrobe (as well, further back up the line, as by the taps on the regulator and on the tank). I sometimes wish that there was an inside isolator to the BBQ point, to prevent loss / destruction by vandals.

Re: Broadway EK External BBQ Gas Point
Hello maj_069, did you manage to get a resolution to your external BBQ point problem, as I 'seem' to have the same problem.
I used the BBQ a week ago without any problems. Your item seems to have just stopped, did you get it fixed, please.

Re: Broadway EK External BBQ Gas Point
Hi, Delboy. Yes I did manage to get it fixed. On my EK I turned all three gas isolation valves to the 'on' position. When I did this, the gas flowed to the external outlet. I'm not sure why, but I suspect the feed to the external gas outlet is fed via the Fridge and not by the feed to the Oven or Heater.

Re: Broadway EK External BBQ Gas Point
Hi maj_069, many thanks, that forced me to put my brain in gear. I've added this explanation to my own post as well as to this one:-
There are three gas cutoff taps in the wardrobe on my Bourton, and as we were planning to use the gas fridge and gas cooker last time out, I turned on those 2 taps. When we needed the BBQ I turned on the third tap, but now I've looked at the pictographs on the third tap it is for the gas water heating, not for the BBQ. When we left site, I turned off all three taps in the wardrobe.
When we got home I turned on only the (water heating) third tap in anticipation of using the BBQ and it didn't work (because the fridge tap was turned off). In trying to diagnose this problem, I had even traced the gas supply for the BBQ back to where it is tee'ed off the fridge gas supply, and not realised that meant I MUST have the fridge gas turned on for the BBQ.
So, problem solved and brain now taken back out of gear until next time I need it...
