location of split charge relay Dorset 2011
Hi all,
I have suffered a flat vehicle battery due to lack of use and cold weather. Besides replacing the vehicle battery I plan to fit a Battery Master to hopefully avoid similar issues in future.
My question is, does anyone know the location of the split charge relay, or how to trace where I might find it on my 2011 AS Dorset (Symbol).
I have also noticed my Whale space heater is flashing red(x3) without me switching it on, can anyone explain this. Also my control panel will not allow me to select the vehicle battery in order to get some charge into it. I assume this is a safety feature for when the battery is past recovery?
Thanks
Andy Fallon

There were three or four different electrical systems in use in 2011, which one do you have?

I'm pretty sure that the split charge relay is integral to the EC155. You should be able to add the battery master by connecting to the leisure and vehicle batteries as they enter the EC155.

Ok, thanks Peter.
I will take a look and see if I can identify the correct cables.
I must admit that there is not a lot of room to work on that area, I may simply replace the battery once I have checked it out.
Thanks anyway.

You could always fit the battery master near the vehicle battery and run a wire back to the leisure battery (via a fuse)

I will have a think and do some research. What size wire and fuse would you recommend?

I'd use 1.5 mm sq flex to extend any of the wires on the battery master as the maximum charging current is just over an amp.

Re: location of split charge relay Dorset 2011
Ok so I have purchased a NOCO 10amp charger and recharged my starter battery successfully. I also have a Votronic 3065 battery saver on it's way to me from Germany (it worked out cheaper even with delivery). I have some 2mm sq 17amp flex (Votronic recommend 1.5 to 2.5 sq), ready to wire in the Votronic when it arrives on Tuesday.
From my research I need to fuse the connections to the battery, is that two fuses, one on either side of the Votronic or just one fuse either to or from the unit?

The fuses are to prevent the wiring from overheating in the event that a failure in the unit or of the connecting wires that causes either (or both) battery +ve's being connected to -ve or to each other. Fit 10A fuses in both battery +ve connections as near to the battery +ve terminal as practical.

Thanks Peter, I have some short runs of cable with inline fuse holders, I will fit two close to each battery.

As Peter said in his second reply, the simplest place in terms of wiring would be adjacent to the EC155.
The vehicle battery should be on pins 5 and 6 of the 9-way power connector, and the leisure battery on pins 8 & 9 of the same connector. Provided that A/S installed the EC155 in compliance with Sargent's instructions, both of those circuits should already be protected by a 20A fuse at the battery end.

Thanks Roopert, my problem with that is getting access to the EC155. It is not easily accessible in the back of the cupboard under the sink. I presume I would have to remove the unit itself to access the inputs which I am assuming are in the back of the unit. If this is the case I doubt there will be enough give on the wires to bring the unit out of the cupboard in order to recognise and connect to the terminals.
