Leisure Battery
Hi,
Looking for a little assistance on which Leisure batteries I should buy.
I have a 2015 Kemerton XL. There are two leisure batteries. The blurb on the top of the current battery reads "NUMAX Leisure LV26MF 100Ah C20".
I've just looked at the Tayna website. They don't have a Leisure LV26MF 100Ah listed, but they have the 95Ah variant. However they do have a Marine battery, MV26MF 100Ah.
Can I just use the Marine battery, as it has the right dimensions and capacity? Or should I be looking at something else, for increased capacity maybe?
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Brian

Re: Leisure Battery
Thanks Peter - unfortunately they are about an inch taller than the current ones, and won't fit in the mounting box (the lid won't close).

Re: Leisure Battery
My leisure battery died and I fitted a 130ah in its place. Width and length were fine but it was also about an inch too high.
I just strapped it in, the lid sits a bit higher but it’s fine.

Re: Leisure Battery
Richard, I think it was this one primarily because of the dual terminals that I needed. I did wonder about the 130ah claims at the time and they seem to have now changed the specs!! Either way, it’s performed great with no issues in 2 years.

bl55, there is an overhang on the battery box lid of at least an inch. I don’t have a gap even with the extra battery height

Re: Leisure Battery
Well, I have a new potential problem, but I can't believe that I'm the first person to ever have it.
I bought 2 new batteries- Powerline XV30HMF from Tayna, and they duly arrived the next day. However, the vent holes were square, and the existing vent pipe has round plugs - so don't fit. I googled to try to find square plugs to fit on the vent pipe - I can't find any, and nobody else seems to have tried to do the same as me. I then had a long exchange with Tayna (who although helpful had never come across this problem before), which ended up with us agreeing that I should buy two new batteries and return the powerline ones for a refund.
The original batteries that I had were Numax, so I bought two CXV30HRMF batteries yeayerday. They've just arrived, and guess what - square vent holes...
Do I actually need to vent these? The decription is "sealed". I've tried looking for NUMAX on the internet, to contact them directly, but can't find them anywhere.
Help!
Cheers

Never come across square vent holes. Are they actually round further inside the case?
Numax is one of the brand names of Ecobat Battery (formally Manbat Ltd). Contacts here

Re: Leisure Battery
Mine came with a square (rectangle) vent, not a hole but a protruding rectangle. I just pushed the plastic tube on it and secured with a small tie strap.
It’s not clear on the Tanya website regarding yours, any chance of a picture? Just a thought, have you checked in the bottom of the box for the adapters? I thought I was missing a couple of battery specific nuts/washers but they were in a small bag at the bottom of the fantastic Tayna packing!!

Re: Leisure Battery
Have to confess, my under driver seat LB is not connected to any vent....
Clearly there it gets loads of air movement, if it was in a proper battery box with lid, I'd be more concerned, just do as Dbvwt has and lead the vent pipe outside the vehicle (Air vents in floor for water heater etc...)

Re: Leisure Battery
The vent doesn't protrude enough to get a pipe onto it (it's flush with the side of the battery at the bottom)
I've emailed the ecobat people (more in hope than expectation!), thanks for the link.
This is a not brilliant photo - the vent is probably about 1cm wide and 0.5cm high. I've tried ramming the circular plug into it, but the diameter is too big, and there's definitely not a suitable receptacle for the round plug.

Re: Leisure Battery
Ian, I think the problem is the actual vent connection onto the battery, I’m assuming there is a vent tube that already routes outside?
I’m wondering if the hole is actually round further inside the battery as mentioned by Ploughlin?.
A picture will definitely help
Edit… that’s very strange, I’ve bought a few Numax batteries in the past and they didn’t look like that.

I think that my reply may have crossed with yours!
I've just rootled through the box, and definitely no extra gifts.
Thanks for all the suggestions

Re: Leisure Battery
Sealed Lead Acid maintenance free batteries don't produce gases under normal use or charging. Under overcharging situations gas maybe produced and to cater for this the batteries are fitted with one way blow of valves internally. In a well ventilated area vent tube is not strictly necessary, probably advisable if in a sealed battery box.
Am surprised Tayna were not able to advise on safe use of these non-venting battery cases.

My panel and EC500 are permanently switched off as I’ve modded the standard setup. As far as I can remember there is a setting (may be in the advanced settings) for the battery ah.

Re: Leisure Battery
Set
I’ve come across these odd shaped vents in batteries, however if I describe the fitting in the battery in the picture as a “female” rectangle, the ones I have come across are “male” rectangles. The method I’ve used is a silicone tube that fits nicely over the existing vent pipe and then stretches over the male rectangle. A sort of link pipe that goes from rectangle to round.
Obviously this doesn’t help in this case but I suspect a fitting does exist.
