Leisure battery
Hello
Should I keep my symbol hooked up when parked on the drive to keep the leisure battery topped up when not using it so much over winter? I’ve just had a new leisure battery fitted so don’t want to risk it getting flat and damaging a new battery!
Thanks

Re: Leisure battery
I leave my vehicle on EHU but not permanently switched on. I give it a weekly charge for two or three hours depending on the state of the battery. For a vehicle in store I would use a timer for a programmed charge.

Hello from just up the road,Keiths answer is spot on.Had a 2005 Symbol for 6 years and found that 3 or 4 hours charge to each battery about once a week kept everything well charged. The switch to change between leisure and vehicle battery should be on your control panel

Re: Leisure battery
He won't get 100w on a Symbol roof but I just managed to fix 2x40w panels on my 04 van. This with 2x110amp leisure batteries shoehorned in gives me more than enough power.IanH wrote:Better still, fit 100w solar, dual battery controller, never have to worry again.....AND, always have 2 x full batteries!!

Re: Leisure battery
OK, I got 100w on a Harmony roof, clearly they are different. 80w will be nearly as good and certainly adequate. Either way, google Photonic Universe, all you need there, v helpful and knowledgeable too

Re: Leisure battery
Our van is now on EHU to run a Dimplex Chico 700W oil filled radiator with it's thermostat set for around 5C. I think it keeps the damp levels down and our toilet's flush from freezing. I did have the EC700 on but with plenty of solar from 2 x 80W panels the batteries should be OK. It and we need a run out in it, the weather though has been rather horrible recently. If we do go out for the day I'll have to pack some wet wipes and some bottled drinking water.

Depends what you have running in the van, all lights, heating, charging devices and watching TV will suck the power out of the battery. This time of year very little solar to top it up.

Re: Leisure battery
I am surprised at this it’s got to be down to usage, we recently managed 2 nights on our 7 year old lead acid battery with the heating on during the night, still had a useable battery when we left the site. We have no solar. You need to monitor the amount of amps you are drawing and you can work out how long your battery will last 1 amp draw equates to 60 hours battery until flat, assuming you can use all of the capacity.Bikerdave129 wrote:Hi
