Surrey wind out awning
Hi all, after many years with caravans I've recently acquired a 10 plate Surrey.
Just been out on out
first trip and it was great. However, the wind out awning does not fully retract at the winding side and there's a big gap at the top of the front bar and the bodywork. It came with a spare arm, as one of them has a slight crease in it. Would this cause all the issues? Is there adjustment or do I find someone to replace the arm and check it over.? Are mobile approved engineers likely to be able to do this?
Thanks for any help and looking forward to many more trips away.
Thanks
Craig

Re: Surrey wind out awning
Yet again most helpful Peter. We have a similar awning on the worcester and it was a real pain to lock back in place. I carry an extending wash pole in the van and have found that if I lift the front of the awning with that whilst Lady G does the winding it goes straight back in no problem. They are a bit notorious for being tetchy but nothing that cant be overcome with a bit of fiddling. If you are bending the brackets I would imagine it might be worth heating them up a bit first.

Hi
We had a Surrey and a Gloucester and they both needed a helping hand to get them clipped back in ,idea was good to have the awning built in, but in reality a real pain

Re: Surrey wind out awning
I have a Sussex with the same awning and same problem so useful information. Thanks.
Also, when the turning pole is inserted to roll-in the awning, I then have great difficulty getting the pole out of the turning mechanism. It seems locked in somehow and as much wriggling about, the * Inappropriate Word * won't release...then many minutes later it just does release... grrrr!

Re: Surrey wind out awning
This happens to the one on our van conversion, I find that I need to angle the support legs so that when winding the awning in it is pulling against the angle of the legs. This has the effect of tensioning the awning fabric whilst been wound away and eliminates uneven coiling of the fabric.
If that makes sense?

Re: Surrey wind out awning
Your profile says you have a Suffolk but you say you have same awning on your Sussex. The Sussex does not have recessed awning so I'm assuming you have made a typo.ghw23 wrote:I have a Sussex with the same awning and same problem so useful information. Thanks.
