wind out awning broken
Whilst camping this past week I was attaching our awning to the Omnister 6200 wind out when there was an almighty bang.
I had wound it out to its maximum with its legs down, (i'm a shortarse) but trying to slide the awning into the groove was very awkward with the legs getting in the way. So like an idiot I put one of the legs back into its housing and proceeded to slide the awning into the groove. It must have been too much weight as thats when it went bang. At first I was unable to turn the handle, the wind out was stuck. Eventually the next door caravanner came over and between us we managed with brute force to wind it in. So I'm unsure if it can be mended or if I have to get a new one, i'll need to find a mechanic to check it out, anyone know of one in the Lincoln area?

It sounds like one of the connecting rods/ pins as either broken or come away from the main frame ?.

Both companies are showing at various events this year, sorry I can't be more helpful.

Thanks Boaby, had no intentions to go to any of the shows this year but may have to if I can't find anybody else.

Give them a ring Baz, I purchased items from Hillview some years back and found them very helpful.bazjaq wrote:Thanks Boaby, had no intentions to go to any of the shows this year but may have to if I can't find anybody else.

Re: wind out awning broken
By what you describe happened to us (same awning) last July. Only wound it out a metre when the right side dropped down with a crack sound. Removing the plastic cover revealed the fixing bolt had popped out seemingly stripping the thread within the fixing. There's a second threaded hole so was able to fix it to wind the awning back without too much effort. I'm thinking the problem may have come about when (perhaps same as yours) initially introducing our Kampa Rally Pro 330 XL into the awning rail, it's so heavy and requires a lot of tugging and pulling, this action likely to have put a lot of strain on the fixing bolt despite only winding the awning out a metre (as recommended) even with the legs down. Not likely to use the Kampa awning until later in the year so will see how things go.
