Locking Symbol with second key?
Hi there everyone. We have just replaced our much loved Gatcombe with a 2010 Symbol, which I'm sure we are going to love as much. But I'm hoping that one of you lovely Symbol owners will be able to help us with a key question. We may well have more questions later, but it's just a key question for now.
The Symbol came with two keys, one is a remote control fob, which works as we would expect (there are buttons to open the cab doors, to open the habitation doors, and to lock everything) and there is a second which is just a key. So presumably, that's the key we would need to use use if the remote battery was flat.
If you use the second key to unlock the driver's door, all the doors (cab and habitation) unlock, exactly as you would expect with central locking. Except this is just central *un*locking. It doesn't seem to do central locking. If you use this key to lock the drivers door, all the other doors stay open, which could be a bit of a problem. We've tried pressing the "lock" button in the centre of the console, and also another similar looking button on the driver's door, just behind the electric window controls, then exiting the vehicle and using the second key to lock the driver's door. But as soon as you exit the vehicle using the driver's door, everything else opens, and the second key only locks the drivers door.
If we need to use the second key to open the vehicle, how do we lock the vehicle securely later? On every vehicle we've had with a remote control fob, the battery has gone flat at some point, and we've needed to use the second key fob to access the vehicle until we can get the battery replaced. This second key isn't going to be much use in this situation unless we can work out how to lock the vehicle afterwards.
What are we missing?

Re: Locking Symbol with second key?
You have to be outside the vehicle, with driver’s door open, then press the lock/unlock button next to the window buttons. All doors will lock (you may need to press it twice as it toggles between locking and unlocking), then close driver’s door and lock it with the key. If that sequence isn’t successful then there’s something amiss with the central locking.

Re: Locking Symbol with second key?
Hi there,
Thanks for the reply. We did eventually manage to get all the doors to lock using the second key. The tip about the locking button on the drivers door possibly needing to be pressed twice was helpful. We just assumed that if the van was open, then pressing an open/lock button would close it!
Also, although we'd made sure to close all the doors properly, we found that we sometimes needed to open and close the sliding door extra firmly, to ensure that it makes a proper contact so it's definitely detected as closed. But knowing that we were trying that should work gave us the confidence to persevere until it did, so thanks again.

BTW if you've not found out yet, pressing the "lock" button on the fob twice quickly double locks all the doors.
