Water system and pump in Topaz
Good morning, we were just preparing our 1998 Topaz to go on our summer road trip. First of all we filled the freshwater tank, turned the pump on and although you could hear the pump going nothing was coming out of the taps. How do we know if the pump is working and if it has failed where can we go to fix it. We haven't used the camper since last year when the system was working and we did the necessary draining of both tanks over winter. Can anyone help?

Re: Water system and pump in Topaz
If pump is making a noise then probably working. Air in the system, often takes a long time to expel all air from pipework. Or could be air getting into system, check the filter for cracks.
Lots of differing advice on how to prime the system. I use the furthest from tank method on hot water taps then repeat on cold. Has always worked in past but currently have a real issue with spluttering taps.
I took out pump and reconnected everything, looked at filter and reassembled. Testing on site over the weekend.

Thank you JandL. I'm afraid I'm a bit ignorant as to where the pump is let alone the filter. I'll see if I can follow it by listening out for it. Does anyone out there know where to look for the pump in a VW 1998 Topaz?

Your pump is possibly under a false floor in a cupboard under sink area. I find that opening taps before switching pump on after filling forces air from the hot tank through pipes to taps, after a while once hot tank is full remaining air in pipes will be pushed through and water should flow.

Thank you Paulmold. I'll give that a go too.We had all the taps open as we were filling the tank. So as you suggest we'll close all the taps while we're filling and then open the hot tap before turning the pump on. The consensus seems to be that the pump is working and that maybe there's an air lock. Because we've not had any problems until now we've not had to worry about the water system. I appreciate your advice.

I think leaving taps open whilst filling is fine, that will also push air through, sounds as if you know what you're doing.

Not that it’s the same van but Duetto took a bit primming after the system had been drained down. The shower tap was in sight of the pump but did a lot of spluttering before the system cleared.
The current Rienza has much longer pipe runs but clears very quickly spluttering and soaking me if I get too close. Maybe the older Duetto pump was a bit weaker due to its age but it worked fine once it had settled down.

Re: Water system and pump in Topaz
Hi everyone. Well I've found the pump and it looks like it hasn't been touched since it was installed! Can someone now give me a diagram or tell me where to find one that shows how I access the filter so I can clean it out. Also I don't even get spluttering from the taps just nothing.

Exploded view but don't know if there's a filter in there as they sell separate screw on filter which I think is unlikely to be part of your installation.

Hi Paulmold. I can't see an exploded view. Did you attach it?

Is there a puddle under the van ? Vis. is the drain tap open and allowing water to drain as fast as you pump it in ?
