Chris's one is good, mainly because it can measure up to 10A, not all do. Essential if you need to test a larger solar panel, for example.
Mostly you'll need continuity with a beeper
DC volts, 20v scale will be most used, 200vdc for solar panel voltage though...(Few are less than 20vdc)
600vac for measuring mains voltage
In addition a coil of light wire 20m or so long will be handy for lots of measurements

As Ian said a length of cable with crocodile clips on both ends is a useful addition. Trying to find an good earth point is essential part of fault finding. I watched a young auto electrician fault finding with his earth lead fastened to a tatty bit of a vehicle body. The best earth is normally the battery negative terminal.

Hi
If you are prepared to spend a bit more money several of the forum members have these:

They were discussed in this thread,

The main advantage being you just have to clamp on to the wire to read current so you don't have to break into the circuit and can't easily blow it up with excess current.
you do go for it make sure you get the UT210E the suffix “E” refers to the one with the low current range. The UT210D hasn’t got the low current range although if you did want the higher current ranges the "D" is the one to go for.
