Dutto will probably be able to help when he sees this post. I am uncertain of which catch they fitted on the Duetto

I imagine it's the same lock as on my Symphony which is this type..

As you can see, the outside knob screws off but whether that helps in any way I don't know.

Thank you - I am going out with a pair of pointed pliers to try to turn the knob - part of the problem is that when you press the knob in it doesn't come out as it should to release the closure mechanism - I'll let you know how i get on - any other suggestions gratefully received !

Well I've got the brass knob and the outer brass case off so I can now see the screw but it still won't come out far enough to release the door catch - I don't know what to do next.javascript:emoticonp('')

Re: Duetto Bathroom Door Wont Open
Push the whole door inwards to take the pressure off the lock/latch, then try operating it with a hard jab of the finger (with the knob back on).
We have plastic carpet protectors and sometimes it rides up between the door and the "bathroom sill" when this happens, we have the same problem that you're having.

Thanks for that suggestion - I've tried it but no success - yet ! Should I press the door inwards in the middle where the lock/catch is or at the bottom with my foot ?

Bathroom Door
Hi Heather,
We have a similar catch on our washroom door and looking at it it is only held to the door by 2 screws at the catch 2 near the bottom and 2 near the top, if all else fails and this is an absolute last resort, carefully use a lever between the door and the wall to open it by pulling the screws out of the door, get a replacement lock and fit by plugging the old screw holes with a matchstick or similar and replacing the screws. You will have to lever near the top, in the middle, and near the bottom, as these catches work in these three places.

Re: Duetto Bathroom Door Wont Open
The washroom lock on our Symphony doesn't have the extensions that the Ebay one had and I suspect that the Duetto fitments are very similar to Symphony ones. Comparing our Symphony to a friend's Duetto of around the same age, showed them to be very similar in layout and fittings.
Our catch is just in the middle of the door which means that if you have to resort to Brian's method, you'll only need to force the screws in one place.

Re: Duetto Bathroom Door Wont Open
Our Clubmam also only has the centre fitting, and has a very flimsy plastic fitting on the door-frame …… so I think would put up a very poor “Fight”
Good luck
Brian

I'm sure you are right Frank, I've just looked at mine and it is only held in the centre and doesn't have the extensions shown in my earlier post (I was thinking back to my last caravan and hadn't been to look at my Symphony.
Anyway while out there, I've unscrewed the knob and looking behind the knob, there is a silver-grey centre behind which there are two small slots at 9 oclock and 3 oclock. If you use a small electrical screwdriver and insert it in the 3 oclock slot and push to the right, it releases the mechanism (presuming that the internal spring isn't broken which could be causing the problem). Other than that I'm afraid it is down to force, either the latch will be ripped from the door or the small plastic latch plate on the frame will be ripped from the frame.

Dear Frank and Brian, thanks to you both for your helpful suggestions - I have tried the small screw driver in the slot at 3o'clock and it is tantalising close to working but it still won't release it enough to open the door. I think you are right and the spring has broken, so I am now going for the nuclear option of forcing the door - at least no-one is in there and I am not desperate to get in - yet, but I will be by next week when we go up the West coast of Scotland !

Have fun Where abouts are you headed for?, we've just come back from Shetland to Aberdeen, across to Ardmair then down the coast via Gruinard, Loch Ewe, Torridon, Lochcarron, Loch Duich, Glen Coe, Callander then Abington. After Abington it was a boring M6 home to Preston and reality

We are heading for Oban then Glencoe and possibily further up the West coast, depending on the weather and the midges - where would you recommend ?

Depends on where your interests lie and what kind of camping/campsites you like.
PM me if you want to discuss it.

Re: Duetto Bathroom Door Wont Open
hello Heather, hope you get the door sorted before your trip north.
There are a couple of sites at Oban that I have stayed at
This one is only a 5 minute drive out of town quiet and clean.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
This site has some of the best views you can get from any site but is about 15 miles out of Oban on the road to Ft William. road.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
and in Glencoe it would be hard to better this one.

I can second Ernie's recommendation of Invercoe.
I've been stopping at Invercoe on my way North, and again on my way back South for around 30 years now.
Iain, the owner has always made some change or improvement every year.
Not cheap @ £21 per unit per night, but a lovely site in a beautiful setting. If you go, try and get a place on the "terrace", right on the loch side.

Many thanks for your suggestions and especially Invercoe which we will definitely try. We are taking our bikes on the back of the Duetto have you tried cycling in that area at all?
Meanwhile, you will be pleased to know that my husband managed to force the lock on the bathroom so we can get in now - much relief all round - literally.

Hi Heather,
That type of door catch should be available from any local caravan or motorhome dealer, as they ar fitted to the internal doors in an awfull lot of motorhomes and caravans, a very common item.
