Fridge vent plastic covers
The plastic louvred vent covers are a little bit loose, not falling off but rattly. I imagine they clip on somehow but I don't want to try in case I break any brittle clips. Any tips for getting them off?
Many thanks

If they are the same as mine there are two black plastic clips - you just slide them and they will click - two at the top of each vent.

Re: Fridge vent plastic covers
Worth adding that the two black plastic clips are only visible by crouching down and looking up through the louvres. They are at the top of each vent and are released by sliding them in a direction parallel to the louvres, towards the centre of the vent if I recall correctly. I use a flat-bladed screw driver blade to push them along the channels in which they sit. The clips have a positive action to both release them and to re-secure them.
The vents on our van are slightly loose despite the clips being secured correctly. It’s not caused any problem.

Re: Fridge vent plastic covers
Does it depend on the make / model of the fridge?
Mine just pull off, no slidey clips

Thanks for the pointers. They're not really doing any harm, I'll have a little look tomorrow. Might just leave them alone rather than break them trying to fix them

Re: Fridge vent plastic covers
One of our fridge vent clips was broken during a habitation check. They replaced the clip with a self tapping screw. I should have demanded a new vent but it was amid the pandemic chaos so it was never resolved.
If the other clip breaks I will do the same to save me loosing the vent.

Re: Fridge vent plastic covers
When we had a Duetto one of the Dometic fridge vent covers came detached and was lost on the road so I had to buy a replacement. I think over time the plastic becomes brittle and more prone to break.
With our Kemerton XL I make sure they are well attached but so far haven't done anything like adding a self-tapping screw or zip ties. The top cover is slightly awkward to fit because I need a step ladder to reach it.

I see how they come off now. Once back on they are secure enough, I'm not going to worry about it.

Re: Fridge vent plastic covers
A few years ago I almost lost my Thetford fridge vent cover. Found it on the ground when the van was stationary. One holding clip was missing from the vent cover. I purchased new clips from ebay. Could have used a self tapping screw to secure the vent cover to the van. Thank you for the tip.
