Fridge vent covers
Have a 2016 Warwick XL. Van came with no vent covers for the fridge. Any suggestions where I could buy some ?. Do the covers fit over the existing vents or do you remove them before fitting covers ?

Re: Fridge vent covers
Winter covers fit over the standard vents. Dometic and Thetford use different ones.

Re: Fridge vent covers
My new Warwick Duo van was supplied with the two vent covers.
Did you buy new?
Which reminds me, I should fit them now it's December.

Re: Fridge vent covers
Hi Chalkywhite,
Hope you don't mind if I join in to find out about fridge vents covers rather than start a new thread. I also bought a van with no vent covers. I have seen them being sold online as Paul suggests. I just googled it. I would like to just ask the questions of the forum: Do I really need them? And what will happen to the fridge if I don't use them?
Thanks,
Emily :)

Re: Fridge vent covers
In my opinion, yes, you do need them. They restrict leaves and other undesirable objects entering the back of the fridge in autumn/winter, and potentially affecting the operation, especially on gas, as blown in bits can easily block the air vents in the burner area.
My fridge seems to operate more efficiently with them in place when the night time temperatures go down into single figures.
Until I read this I thought all vans came with winter vent covers as standard, mine certainly did.

Quoting from Towsure website
.
.
Winter Fridge Vent Covers Protects During Storage
With a caravan vent cover fitted, creepy-crawlies are prevented from entering your caravan through the vent grilles whilst your caravan is in storage. The cover also protects against dust and debris building up and clogging the vent, and water ingress. Handy to use when washing your caravan too - prevent washing water from accidentally entering the vents especially if hosing down or using a flow brush.Caravan Fridge Vent Covers aid Efficiency in Low Temperatures
Fridge vent covers are not just winter storage covers. Use a vent cover in your caravan in temperatures of 8 degrees C or below, to aid heat exchange and help your fridge to operate efficiently_________________

Re: Fridge vent covers
I seem to remember Dometic fridges don't come with covers, but Thetford fridges do, or visa versa.

I've had three Dometics and one Thetford in new vans, and they all came with covers.
Could it be that the dealer has to ask for them to be included? Unlikely I would think, but I can't understand why some members get them automatically and others don't. You would expect A/S to be consistent (Yeah . . . OK!! ) so the only other variable is the dealer.
Probably????

Looking on the Dometic website, the vent accessories are complete with frame, grille and winter covers. The Thetford site lists the winter covers seperately to the vent.

Re: Fridge vent covers
I'm not 100% certain, but I think mine came as part of the 'Winter Pack' option, rather than as standard.

Re: Fridge vent covers
I should have added that although I've continued to use the van right through October, November and December, I have not felt the need to use the covers yet and I'm not planning on using them on tomorrow's Christmas trip.

Re: Fridge vent covers
in the manual (page 3-2 Warwick Duo) it does say that "the fridge vent covers should be fitted when the vehicle is driven in order to comply with European type approval regulation".
This kind of implies all vans should have the vent covers.
I certainly don't fit them every time I travel but if its in the manual!
If you bought from a dealer, then I think you should ask the dealer to supply them.
or check under the seats to make sure you haven't got them already

Our didn't come with the winter covers, or the Peugeot handbook. The salesman "borrowed" one from another van which might explain why we didn't get covers.

The 2017 Warwick Duo has a Dometic fridge and it comes with a pair of fridge vent covers as standard.PLOUGHLIN wrote:I seem to remember Dometic fridges don't come with covers, but Thetford fridges do, or visa versa.
Actually I think all the van conversions this year and last are Dometic.

I bought 2 separately, one from eBay and the other from Amazon, because of stock issues, much cheaper than the manufacturer prices and you don't have to buy the whole thing just the covers - check your sizes.

Re: Fridge vent covers
My van, Thetford fridge came without covers (I'm with Peter on whether they are supplied or not) but I simply cut 2 rectangles of vinyl sheet for that I put inside the vents when needed. Totally effective and zero cost :-)

Re: Fridge vent covers
I was wondering weather to make my own Ron. Do you need to leave some ventilation or is it OK to block completely.

Re: Fridge vent covers
With vent covers fitted there is still ventilation. Have you checked with where you purchased the van as I think vent covers are supplied as standard. They were on mine.

I have asked if they should have been supplied, via e mail to the dealer and been told they don't supply them. Will chase this up.

Re: Fridge vent covers
AFAIK, you must leave some space for ventilation is using the fridge. The winter covers fitted leave only the topmost part of the vent open and the rest closed.chalkywhite wrote:I was wondering weather to make my own Ron. Do you need to leave some ventilation or is it OK to block completely.

Also make sure that the flue outlet for the gas burner is not covered, otherwise you may get flue gases entering the habitation area.chalkywhite wrote:I was wondering weather to make my own Ron. Do you need to leave some ventilation or is it OK to block completely.

Re: Fridge vent covers
When my van came, the covers were on the vents and not in the bag or itemised separately.

Re: Fridge vent covers
Same as Ron, Thetford fridge came without covers so followed the instructions from a previous thread on how to make your own by cutting out 2 rectangular vinyl sheets to size, plus allowing an appropriate gap for ventilation. Works a treat at zero cost.
