New gas system Symbol
Hi
Thinking of buying a new Symbol and it says they have a gas filling system rather than a bottle.
Could anyone fill me in on this please?
Regards Mus

It'll be the underslung gas tank which is topped up from a filler point in the side of the van.
Although it’s not an AS, mine has the same and you can just see the filler point with its red warning sticker behind the driver's door in my avatar photo.

You fill it from autogas pumps mostly at garages that stock it or places such as flogas depots.

Ok thanks.
Do you think it's a better system?
And do plenty of garages supply it?

Re: New gas system Symbol
The big plus is that it saves space. It’s also much cheaper than bottled gas.
The minus is that more and more garages are stopping selling autogas but I understand Marquis dealerships are installing LPG pumps. Paul frequently posts details of apps/websites which list gas filling stations and I’m sure you’ll find info by searching this site.

I love the underslung LPG system, no scary bottles to deal with, can fill up easily Europe wide (with cheap and simple adaptor) but most of all once full it lasts for ages! I only filled up twice on an 84 day trip this Spring :-)

Don’t get too excited about Marquis dealers installing pumps. Its the right thing for them to do but it relies on practicalities at each dealer. Upham (Winchester) are not due to lack of space. Shame as it would have been convenient for me and a source that might not disappear at any moment.
Next nearest dealer to fit is in Surrey! Lucky all those who will have steady supply near them.

Get the Autogas LPG app on your mobile.
Tells you where your nearest garage is that sells LPG and the price per litre.
My tells me that my nearest to Hereford is Locks garage on the A465 and is currently charging 77.9 p per litre.
Way, way less than the equivalent price for bottled gas!

Re: New gas system Symbol
Our Marquis dealer decided not to go ahead with an LPG pump due to cost. The Autogas app (as mentioned) is excellent - search for the link as it is an https site. It is regularly updated by users.
If you plan to visit France you may like to know that just about every Autoroute service station has an LPG pump. You need an adapter but the pumps are much easier to use than the UK ones. None of this twisting the nozzle handle business.

Re: New gas system Symbol
Our 21 plate Symbol has just had its first habitation service, this was done by Simon from Lincoln ,registered mobile workshop, there appears to be a problem with the gas tap on the tank as when turning the tap off it still passes a small amount of gas. Gas it are fully aware of the problem, and if you go to their website all wii be explained

Yes it does take a bit to find it, if you go to the page ,What do you do first, open that , and then on the right hand side their are questions and answer, open the one that relates to the shut off valve.

I have a new (2021) symbol and lpg tank, but it only allows me to put 5 to 7 litres in at a time despite it showing nearly empty. The dealers are trying to find out what is happening because mine is the second van with this problem

The gauges are notoriously inaccurate and should only be taken as a guide. Be thankful that they are pessimistic and you will not run out, far better than if they showed optimistic readings

Re: New gas system Symbol
Short answer - No. Very limited suppliers in Scotland and elsewhere and often equipment out of action. I would rather have less locker room but be independent. There are two apps I use: Best one is called AutogasApp. search for it on the Google playstore. The other one is for europe as well as UK but less reliable. The AutogasApp relies on data/info from users and can include price if input. Don't trust it 100% but useful.Musley wrote:Tinwheeler wrote:It'll be the underslung gas tank which is topped up from a filler point in the side of the van.

Useful App
I've posted this elsewhere in this thread but might be useful to highlight it separately. I use an app called AutogasApp from Google playstore. It can be useful but not 100% reliable. Give me my own gas bottle anyday.

on board gas tank
Having in. the past used Calor gas cylinders .. our 2019 Symbol came with a built under tank its a 25 L. ie hold 20L LPG at under 80p a L easy to fill .. we have 3at least garages within 10 miles who stock it .. we have been in West/ Middle/ East/ Scotland /.. it lasts soo long as you are in an area and getting Diesel just look and ask you will soo note where they are .also east coast Yorkshire and Wales ... sliced bread is good but the under slung tank is the best thing since... so yes a far better system .. and not hard to find LPG..all main Morrissanns have it
