Battery purchase
Can anyone recommend a leisure battery for my 2000 "Symbol" ? I've done very well on batteries in my 20 years ownership of the van but my latest replacement, a NUMAX XV24MF 80Ah has gone belly-up in a relatively short space of time. I've seen a few on ebay around the £60/70 mark-up that would fit the bill (dimensions are critical) but would this be false economy? I await your comments with batteried breath.
Happy motoring,
Shantyman Les.

Re: Battery purchase
A lead/acid battery is one of the few things that I wouldn't buy on Ebay (*) - because the packaging is so critical to the battery reaching you in good condition. In recent years I've always bought via Tayna, because their packing is excellent, and their website is very good - you can tell it the capacity and maximum size of space that you have available and it will show you batteries that will fit.
I've not had much luck with Numax or Enduroline either. I tend to stick with Varta or Bosch. I've bought a few Yuasa as well and not had issues, but some on the VW T5 forum reckon that they have gone downhill a bit recently - though that's hearsay and not from personal experience.
(* having said that, Tayna do actually have an Ebay store! But I think prices there are slightly higher than going directly to the Tayna website.)

Re: Battery purchase
Just ordered from Tayna this morning. The last leisure battery I bought off them has just started to go downhill, showing 75% SOC and drawing a constant 0.7amps from my solar panel even with everything switched off.
I've gone for an Enduroline 85AH, mainly because it's Tayna's best buy recommendation and it has a four year guarantee.
My old battery was an 85AH Shield and has lasted ten years, got my money's worth I reckon...

Re: Battery purchase
Halfords will price match Tanya or any other mainline suppliers, a copy of the suppliers on line quote is all that is required also Tanya do a 10% discount for some clubs (this will not be matched by Halfords)

Re: Battery purchase
That's interesting - I didn't know that Tayna had a club discount. I need to check which of the clubs that is!
I must admit that I've not had any bad experiences with Halfords batteries either, though without discounts I found that they were around 20% more expensive than Tayna. IIRC, Halfords batteries were rebadged Vartas a few years back, and more recently rebadged Yuasas.
