Battery purchase
I bought a new Newmax leisure/starter battery approx. 3 years ago for £75. Since the first lockdown we haven't used our 2000 Symbol very much which has resulted in the aforementioned losing it's capacity to hold a charge. Newmax do not recommend a trickle charger and so have decided to bite the bullet and buy another. I have seen one (new, but not Newmax) on Ebay for £39.50 which they claim to do everything that the more expensive Newmax can do........e.g......sealed maintenance-free, leisure/engine starter, same dimensions (fits battery tray) condition viewer glass, guarentee, etc. Would any of you electrical boffins out there NOT recommend it?
I thank you in anticipation,

Re: Battery purchase
We have a couple of battery experts on the forum who should advise on what to purchase shanty, personally I would look at the range of batteries on Tanya.

Re: Battery purchase
Addendum....It is, of course, a Numax and not a Newmax as previously stated! Not a 'typo' but a malfunction of my brain which had moved into it's "short memory" mode. My age...hey ho.

Re: Battery purchase
We get through a lot of batteries at work on customers boats and on our hire fleet, 4 domestic batteries on each boat. Numax is brand we no longer use. We seem to be having some success with lead carbon batteries but it’s still early days. On my motorhome I have yuasa from Tanya batteries it’s only been on a little over a year so can’t comment as to it’s longevity, went on the recommendation on here.

Re: Battery purchase
I had to buy a new vehicle battery last year. I spent a long time reading members' views and thoughts on here and found the "essays" by the late AllanFEvans particularly helpful. For me he talked a lot of sense and I finished up with a Varta LDF90 (I'm pretty sure that's the number but writing this from .my bed!). It is actually a leisure battery and not designed for short journeys with a lot of starter use. But I don't use my motorhome for short journeys! It is more resistant to dropping below 50% charge than a starter battery but still has a high max amps so can be used for starting. When the leisure battery goes (it's 10 years old now!) I will buy another the same and can interchange them if appropriate. He also recommended a similar Yuasa. But either of these will cost £100 to £110. I think you can get what you pay for - but you do need to be discerning.

Re: Battery purchase
Good morning all, I cannot verify this but read on another forum of batteries from China being sold on e-bay that are actually a smaller battery fitted in the case of a larger battery. Think batteries are an area like brakes & tyres, sometimes you have to bite the bullet & buy either local or from a reputable name. Just my thoughts.

Re: Battery purchase
I have to say that I would be extremely suspicious at that price. Even the same brand elsewhere are typically over £60
You also have to be careful SuperBatt brand are a Chinese company but it is also the name of a battery distribution company selling other brands based in Glasgow

Don't know if this refers to brand or the Glasgow company but not good.
