VW T4 hatch insulation solution
We have noticed that there is a lot of cold coming from the rear hatch of our T4 Trident when camping. Our heads can get pretty cold in the night. I wondered if anyone has the same issue.
I wondered if anyone had found or come up with an insulation solution?
Many thanks from Rob.

Not the same motorhome but if the wind is on the left rear corner you can feel a draft from the locker door on that side of our Rienza. You can get into the locker from under the side bench so there’s nothing to stop any drafts from between the cushions.
We keep a blanket on the seat over the joint in the cushions during the day. At night the mattress topper seems to keep the drafts out. It’s on managements side so I would be aware of drafts.
I looked at the locker door to try and cure this but there dosnt seem to be any adjustment and the seal looks ok not letting any water in.

Have you done a "strip of paper" test on the rubber seal, all the way round the tailgate? If it's not in full contact all the way round, you will get a significant draught (because it's a long seal, obviously).

Hatch?? Tailgate? or roof hard side flaps?
Remember its a 20 yr old 2+season camper 'van and the seals will have hardened somewhat.
We had an RV 50 and always tried to park into the wind.
You will never be able to eliminate the drafts from these vehicles.

As the window is single glazed I would think that the air on the inside will be cooled by the cold air outside and as cold air falls it will feel like you are in a draught. Best solution would be an insulating layer on the outside of the window. Maybe try and fabricate something out of the bubble wrap insulation they sell for use in buildings.

I had a VHT (precursor of Trident). Does the hatch (I presume in the roof) have a flyscreen and or blind? I recall putting bubble wrap beneath the pane, held in place by closing the flyscreen all the time. That insulated quite well, whilst still letting in the light. (I do the same with the bathroom roof hatch in my Nuevo).

You waited approximate 20hrs before posting that reply
I'm not sure how many people here are familiar with a 2002 VW T4 Trident and check in to the forum on a daily basis.
Patience my friend...
