Habitation Door Seal
Hi,
I have purchased a replacement habitation door seal because the existing one is breaking down. I have a question regarding the installation. The existing one has a bit cut away around the locking mechanism. However, it still inhibits the closing/locking of the door. It needs to be closed just right, or it can't be locked from the inside.
Question for anyone with a similar habitation door: what does the seal look like around the locking mechanism? Below is a picture of my current one. (Sorry..can't seem to insert it correctly orientated.) I would like to install the new one correctly.

From memory, our 2002 Pollensa is much the same, maybe not quite as ragged. I'll go out tomorrow in the daylight and take a picture to post here so you can compare.

Great, thanks!! I was thinking to cut the whole piece out around the locking mechanism, but am a bit afraid that water could seep in.

Here you go - as you can see there is some damage on the outer seal but not much, however the inner flange has been cut away to stop it catching. I honestly can't remember whether I have done that during the seventeen years we've owned it or if it would have been the previous owner.
Now that I look at it closely, there is a bit on the top that needs a small trim and also the outer seal does have a vertical split as well as the holes, so I've ordered some black flexible rubber repair sealant from Amazon and will give it some more attention when that arrives.

Hi Roger,
Thanks for the reply and the pic. Yours looks almost exactly the same as mine...even where it looks like the seal slipped down an inch or so. On mine, it didn't actually slip, but the whole seal has shrunk. In one of the top corners, it's come away a bit as well. That's why I purchased a new seal. I'll probably install it this weekend. :-)

Re: Habitation Door Seal
Good idea, Slow-Lane - which someone had done that to ours.
Once that flat section starts getting pulled onto the lock mechanism then the main seal profile starts to get damaged too, those cut-outs obviously prevented that happening.

Hi Slow-lane. Thanks for the pic! I'll do the same when I install the new seal this weekend!! Should also help to make the door close easier w/o slamming it.
