Original Side Stripes
I am looking into removing the original decals on my 2000 Duetto as after 20 years they're looking past their best!
I know the thin pinstripes come off relatively easily as I have previously done this using a rubber wheel, but am reluctant to attack the underlying wide green stripes without knowing if they do actually come off.
Has anyone experience of removing all the decals/stripes, particularly the green base strips, from older 'vans?
All help gratefully received!

Some stripes from that era are painted on with pinstripes on top, they certainly were on my 97 Symphony.

That's what I fear Paul! I know that when I was removing the pinstripes I nicked the green in a couple of places with the rubber wheel (careless!) and it seemed to come off, but I'm not sure that wasn't just chance . I was able to cover up the damage with new pinstripes.
Don't want to start trying to remove the whole lot and find I'm taking off paint!!

I know the colour was printed in the handbook as Jaguar Green metallic so guess it must be painted.

Re: Original Side Stripes
I've emailed A-S to see if they can shed any light on it, though after 20+ years I doubt they can be definitive. I'll post their response when received for others' information.

Re: Original Side Stripes
If they are tape a little heat gently applied with a hot air gun will usually get them off without any ill affects, the stripes on our 99 Duetto are tape.

Thanks Graham, that's sounding hopeful with the vehicles being roughly the same vintage. If I don't hear back from A-S on the matter, I'll try that on a hidden area and see what happens.

Be careful. If you apply too much heat the vinyl will peel off but will leave melted glue on the van which then sets hard when it cools.

Thanks for the warning JarJar!
Interestingly Auto Sleepers have come back to me today to say they believe the green stripe is painted. I'm not so sure though, judging by the way some came away when I nicked it with the rubber wheel taking the pinstripes off. You could definitely see the ivory paint underneath.
I think I'll stick with my plan of trying to remove a small hidden section. But I'll get our next trip out of the way first rather than risk going away in a very patchy 'van!

Re: Original Side Stripes
I fear our van may have been messed with following some kind of mishap which required the rear N/S quarter and sliding door to be replaced, this came to light after I had an argument with a wall and during the repairs the above was revealed. In our book with our colour option it gives Jaguar racing green for a coachline which I would think would be painted with colour code HDN although this isn't present on ours.
There are also Adhesive coach stripes listed as follows, 1/2" gold/burgundy code 0550-1204, 1/8" white code 1810-02, 19mm green metallic code 3450-GM and 25mm grey metallic code 1050-23. Can't find these listed by A/S unfortunately as I need some of the grey 25mm to replace that removed during my repairs.

Re: Original Side Stripes
When I replaced the flaky coach lines, I couldn't find any via A-S so resorted to finding some gold and burgundy vehicle stripes online. Not an exact match for originals, obviously, which is why I ended up replacing them on the whole vehicle. But they still looked better than the poor condition originals had done. Still doesn't look quite right though, which is why I am considering starting from scratch, including ditching the broad green base which is now looking pretty faded.
