Duetto 1997 with children
Does anyone know if I can fit a child's car seat to either the front or forward facing seat behind the passenger seat to accommodate our 4 year old granddaughter who is desperate to come campervanning with us. The info from the seat manufacturer says that the front seat is not recommended, I did wonder if that was due to air bag inflation, which we don't have. Any thoughts greatly received. Jenny

As a '97 model your Transit is a Mk5 and should have an air bag on the passenger side. It's easy enough to check though. I doubt the seat behind is suitable as it drops down to form a single bed.Batty Jenny wrote:Does anyone know if I can fit a child's car seat to either the front or forward facing seat behind the passenger seat to accommodate our 4 year old granddaughter who is desperate to come campervanning with us. It could be worth posting on the Ford Transit forum [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] which is free to join and post. Lots of members all with Transits.

As long as rear seat has three point seatbelt I see no reason why a childseat cannot be used in conjunction with it.

Thank you both for your replies. Will try the Transit Ford Forum as suggested. Need to be absolutely sure of safety. Could be our Campervanner of the Future

It does Paul though even that's a bit Heath Robinson. When I took the Duetto I owned for it's first MOT, the tester passed it though couldn't find the lap belt and because i'd not owned it long and never used the third seat, I didn't know where it was either! It's anchored inside the locker underneath the seat!Paulmold wrote:As long as rear seat has three point seatbelt I see no reason why a childseat cannot be used in conjunction with it.
The seat back consists of two cushions stitched together forming an inverted V when in the upright sitting position. From memory it's not secured rigid to anything.

My Symphony had same seat back, there was a strap press-studded to hold it in place but with a three point belt around a child seat, the belt will hold it all in place.
Obviously that doesn't work with isofix child seats.
