1)Summer mode with empty water tank (its not, the water tank is full of hot water and hot water runs out of the taps

3)circulated air intake blocked (garage is empty)
The timber top of the Trump is quite warm
Has anybody else experienced this problem before?

Re: Truma boiler problems in Kingham
hi Dave, not sure but sounds like heater is trying to "vent" cool it's self down for some reason. Ours did it once (but can't remember why) air being blown out of every vent, even though van heating was not required or on.
I would use all the taps hot water, put heating on (turn up thermostats temp to require van heating) just to see if all the venting ignition fans (gas ) van hot air fan works etc. and there's no trapped air in truma water tank.
Then start from scratch with only hot water heater on when truma has cooled down and see if it returns to normal .
Are you using , gas or 240v EHU as heaters supply, hot water setting, mix 2, boost, etc?
When it happened to ours it sounded like a jet engine was in the van, truma cooling its self down venting through wardrobe vents and van heating ducts. Still have no idea why and has never done it again, fingers crossed. Best action was to let the Truma do its thing, not turn it off (let it vent its self) and use hot taps and get some cooler water mix in it.
I would say ( but might be totally wrong) hot water went up to maximum and with the combination of trapped air (steam build up) heater knew its self it was over heating and self vented.
Hope you get sorted and others might be along to help but might need more details.

Re: Truma boiler problems in Kingham
Thanks Bablan. This morning I put the heating on and checked the Heating outlet vent. Hot air was only blowing downwards, not in all directions so maybe the venting has partially detached itself which could reinforce the fault code 17 reasoning of warm air vent blocked. I was using gas when the event happened(I was wild camping) but am on a site now so will try it on electric to see if that triggers it.. Thanks for the advice, I will try that

thanks for the update, keep us informed of what you find as it may help other members who might experience a similar situation.
Not a Kingham owner so not sure of your Truma boiler location and the ducting behind the cabinets etc.
Are you describing the air venting from the truma external vent, exhaust outside vent, attached to the vans side panel?

Yes that's right, the circular vent on the outside of the van. Is it normal for the hot air to come out on only the bottom part of the vent and not all of it?

Re: Truma boiler problems in Kingham
Two things spring to mind.
Have any of the cardboard ducting tubes become detached from their mounts underneath the bed (meaning the heater is just heating itself)?
Or, has the vent at the front of the big wooden box that the heater sits in been blocked by something stored under there?
We've had the symptoms you've described caused by both of these issues in the past.

Hi,I believe that the warm air should only come out the lower half of the outside outlet,. the upper half is the inlet for the boiler air supply. My unit does let warm air out when heating water on high setting electric, but I have always thought this was the unit venting excess heat. Regards Tony.

Hi Weegle
Have checked the heating vents ducts as best as I can and none appear to be loose. Also there was nothing obstructing the boiler air inlet valves at the time..
I.got back home today and have been running the hot water on gas this afternoon and the fault hasn't replicated itself. I talked to a friendly local motor home repairer and he thinks that the sensor activated the fan to cool itself as TonyB and babian suggested and may have now reset itself hence it hasn't reoccurred this afternoon. Still a bit puzzled why the boiler got so hot in the first place as it wasn't hot outside but I'll keep an eye on it. Thanks for all the helpful advice. Regards Dave

That's a good result D/K, I was also a little puzzled when our truma had it's little "dicky fit".
I make sure (while filling up and still connected to mains water) to really make sure there's no air in the system and run the hot and cold taps in every sink in our Warwick. The truma does take a while to fill up and bleed air etc.
Thanks for updating your topic.
