New Van Kingham
I am going to pick up a new to me van tomorrow to replace my old Gatcombe, and I was wondering if anyone knew of any niggles or helpful tips for the A/S Kingham.
I'm really excited but want to make sure I look after it properly.
any help appreciated.
(if it's an automobile and you can sleep in it it must be an Autosleeper!)

Re: New Van Kingham
Congrats!
Keep an eye on the microwave cupboard - they have been known to come away from the adjoining unit.
The extractor fan in the bathroom comes on with the light - particularly annoying if someone has to get up in the middle of the night. Fit a pull cord or just a push on / off light.
There's nowhere to put a cuppa down when you're in bed.
Vanity mirror is too low to be really useful.
Underbed storage will swallow more crap than you think it will.
The awning winder is clipped to the floor underneath the bed which is just stupid. The winder can be stored against the wall under the bed and the clips removed (otherwise they just get in the way).
We only ever use the big table outside, we find the coffee table is fine for dining indoors.
All minor niggles really, except the microwave cupboard - that could be positively dangerous.
We really like the layout and would look at another fixed bed PVC before any other layout (but not another A/S).

Weegie that’s the best piece of helpful information anyone ever given me. I’m still excited to get it today. We have had our Gatcombe for 5 years and can’t manage the beds anymore, so a fixed bed here we come. I hope it lives up to the quality of our old one.
Is it because of the quality that you would look elsewhere in future

We removed our microwave, fed up with coming loose, rattling and dangerous fixing. Modified large table so now fits in between front seats. Repositioned awning handle to panel at top of rear door and relocated document holder from rear of kitchen unit to toilet room wall so can be used at night for iPad, phone, kindle etc.

To date, 3 years, no problem with microwave. Awning handle fixed by near side rear door hinge, though has also lived behind sofa back when bikes on back made access difficult. Disconnected toilet fan. When using bed as day bed, back can be lowered by pulling bed forward, don’t think that’s in the bumpf. Have repacked storage several times. Best to use it several times to sort out your preferences

The charging system alternates between the two batteries, every 4 hours I believe.

On the Kingham, I don’t know if everyone knows (as not seen it in any reviews, or shown on pickup) there is a big pull out work surface, under the Wardrobe. Brilliant extension to the kitchen.

Keep an eye on the microwave cupboard - they have been known to come away from the adjoining unit. We've removed the microwave and use the vacant area for new storage (soft items incase they drop out onto the glass sink top.
The awning winder is clipped to the floor underneath the bed which is just stupid. The winder can be stored against the wall under the bed and the clips removed (otherwise they just get in the way). We have positioned the clips for the winder onto the outside of the bathroom/shower wall ,and clip the winder to those clips. Easily accessible when you open the rear door.
The cloth pocket attached to the base unit and only accessible when you open the sliding door appears to be a rather bizzare item. We have refitted it to wall of the bathroom above the bed - perfect for storing night time reading, torch, van keys etc when you go to bed.
Overall a great van and we have just completed 70,000 miles since 2015.
