Replacement of shower taps
Hi Shower tap is leaking. The insert where washer sits has broken. I have purchased a couple of sets of taps with the idea to just replace the seat with the washer but they have different seats (sods law)
Next option to replace the taps but that means removing the shower walls.
Has any body got experience of doing this in a 1999 Symphony.

Check the wall of the wardrobe, some have an access panel for the back of the shower taps.

Thanks - just read.
Will need to take a close look - access from wardrobe could be an option, or from the removing the window surround or could be taking off the panel with the taps attached.

Bathroom removal
Hi,
I am currently refitting the bathroom in a 97 Symphony having had to take it out to get some welding work done.
It is a PITA to get out. The panel with the tap for the shower on and window in it is screwed top and bottom (to the shower tray) and down both sides to wooden battens, before screwing in place it is extensively Sika Flexed to seal and glue in place.
You will want to take the window surround off (also glued to the window and panel), shower curtain, shower bracket and anything else which may impede removal.
The water pipes are tee'd off at the back of the wash basin as they rise from the floor to supply both.
You may struggle to get the panel out with the pipes connected as there is not much room for manoeuvre between you the panel, toilet and remaining walls/door. I disconnected mine at the tee for ease, the panel inside the rear doors unscrews to reveal the pipework. Trims around the toilet installation may also interfere depending on what they are screwed to.
If possible cover the shower tray and toilet with corrugated cardboard IOT mitigate damage through accident, although not damaged I had mine refinished by Speedcoat to tidy it up prior to refitting.
Wall panels are only 6mm or 1/4" ply coated in sticky back plastic to waterproof it, hence all the Sika Flex at the joins and seams. Consequently they can be fragile.
I'm using 2.5mm plastic hygiene panel to line it as I put it back with waterproof edging strips and Sika Flex.
Good luck,
Andy

Thanks Andy, as suspected a PITA. Might try to find replacement seats and seal before attempting this, might be more hassle than is worth.

If the mixer is like this one, chromed brass, can the seat be recut in situ?
Seat re-cutting tools for hand use are available in a variety of sizes AFAIK.
Do you know a friendly plumber?

OK, mine is out front and the tap was handy:[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
A is a rubber washer
B are a pair of 'o' rings
C is the seat inside the tap body
I suspect A & or B are the issue. C is brass / chrome.
The inner is a bit of a pull to remove once the nut is off.

Re: Replacement of shower taps
TBH, it makes no sense fitting something which cannot be fixed from the outside / operational end. Its just a small tap..

Re: Replacement of shower taps
From memory where A - rubber washer sits in B, the seating has cracked so seal does not seat. When looked at it at start of year was not repairable.
With you on the design - very poor. No thought about being able to replace taps.
Two sets of taps from ebay - identical sizes but with different inserts.
Leak from shower head very little. My good lady clipped a food bag over the shower head - very little water after 24 hours. So no an urgent issue but would like to sort out.
Good luck with your repair
