2021 Symbol at the weighbridge
Alarmed at the somewhat pessimistic views of Auto-Sleepers quoted weights and associated payload capability I took my almost fully laden Symbol to a nearby public weighbridge today so I could judge for myself:
Plus all the other stuff I have added to the van, quite a lot of it, towels, chemicals, bedding, TV and soundbar, 2 kettles, first aid kit, fire blanket, crockery, mugs, cutlery and so on. Oh, and me of course (80 kg).
By almost fully laden I mean that to leave home now, all I would need to add is clothes and food. Even my hiking boots are already in the van..
Anyway despite all the concerns, the weight was 2,920 kg. Plenty of scope for adding other things I am investigating such as bikes, bike rack, tow bar etc. Panic well and truly over with 380 kg to spare.

Front and rear are unofficial guidelines because of the scale limitations. £10 well spent for peace of mind
- Full diesel tank
- Full fresh water tank
- Full LPG tank
- Pedalbox
- Half full AdBlue
- Empty grey waste
- Two heavy folding chairs
- 8 litres bottled water

Our local council Weighbridge, front axle first, then all vehicle, then rear axle for all 3 weights
If you want a ticket they charge, written on a scrap of paper free, they do prefer if you don’t go at the busy time.

We did exactly that, but there is a small slope at each end which affects the weights of individual axles. To counter that anomaly it would have been necessary to do two readings per axle, i.e. facing in both directions and averaged, and it’s not really necessary when there’s plenty of headroom, so I didn’t worry about it too much.

By the way, you’re lucky your council has a weighbridge! Mine doesn’t. Until all the local councils round here started falling out over who can use whose tips, ending up with nobody being able to cross invisible borders with their rubbish, it would have been possible to use another council one about 15 miles away. But now it’s for residents only.
