Spare Fuses
Hi, some help from symbol owners if poss.
1st question -Auto Sleeper Symbol 2020 - what fuses would you advise me to take as spare. Would they be house type fuses or flat large or mini ones? I found that 10amp are used in 3 places but as totally new to a Symbol I need guidance please.
Second question - is it just my vehicle? If you stand facing the rear the fridge door opens on the left totally blocks the aisle and getting into the fridge and freezer section.. Should it be opening on the right? That appears to be the logical way to me.

Re: Spare Fuses
My 2018 Symbol fridge opens so that the door is adjacent to the rear van door with full easy access. I can imagine your frustration if yours opens into the van!
I don’t know what fridges they are fitting in 2020 vans but many have doors that are reversible so they open the other way.

My 2017 Symbol fridge door hinges are on the right (near back doors). I would find hinged left unacceptable.
I wonder if the hinged right were unavailable and Autosleepers fitted what they could get or had in stock, or more likely - some numpty fitted the wrong fridge with the door opening the wrong way.
I would complain if I were you
Good luck

Re: Spare Fuses
Thanks to you both, I had contacted AS and the Quality Manager had picked up the email and he passed it on. Since then I haven't heard from the Service Manager and had emailed him.
I wanted to know that mine is wrong, clearly is from your replies so I have resent my email asking for resolution as I want to start using the vehicle at the end of April.
Living so far north they will need to get the Highland AS agent to do it. I bought it from Derby Motorhomes and it came north on a low loader due to Covid. That was my decision as travel was a no go and that was the safest method. Clearly it needs to be fixed locally as Derby is some 600 miles south! If they can change the handing then methinks it's just a quick call from AS to the agent and agreement over re-imbursement for the time to do it.
Still need advice on what spare fuses I should carry as in original post. Can anyone give clarity.

Re: Spare Fuses
It should give you a list of fuses for the vehicle in the hand book, as for fuses for the Hab side I just bought 2 multi packs of various ampage in standard and mini from Halfords, do not buy from eBay

Back to the fridge, can you find the model number? If it’s a Thetford there should be a sticker inside the fridge itself.
I would put a tenner on the door being one that can be easily reversed (by anyone with basic DIY skills) without having to travel miles or affect the warranty.

I don't know about your fridge, but we had an accident with our tall fridge/freezer when one of the mounts for the freezer door got damaged. (Thetford) I was familiar with changing doors on domestic freezers (I am a Volunteer Handyman) and after studying a couple of on line videos, I was able to reverse the doors on the van freezer, rather than pay Thetford the stupid prices for their spare parts. Good luck ..... some owner should be able to confirm if it is possible with your door.
Sorry DBVWt.. we crossed posts with the same thoughts !!

heres a picture of a Marquis 2020 stock vehicle which clearly shows the fridge with its upper mounted door handle on the left of the door as you face it...hinges on the right, to the rear, as youd expect.
although the images werent quite as clear on the AS website, id say they were as in the Marquis photo.
it doesnt actually look as though the door is reversable, due to handle being on top of the door and not 'symetrical.

Peter Tombs has now responded and Highland Agent will need to sort under a warranty claim. I have asked him to authorise it. Couldn’t do it myself - female - on steep learning curve as hubby always did the technical stuff when he was alive. I am getting there reading, checking but it is a lot to take in.
Halfords for habitation fuses / I have been on my hands and knees and the Sergeant unit seems to have big chunky flat type fuses so I know what I am looking for when I can get to Halfords.
I need to have some as once when we had a AS Broadway fuses went, fortunately we were at Broadway CMC site and the garage across the road sold what was needed.
Many thanks for all your suggestions. I will no doubt be back!

BB, you may well be taking that £10 I bet off me
The door itself is completely reversible as you can see in the photo that shows the handle blank but the control panel above looks a different story.
I still think it would be possible but it would mean unscrewing the panel and moving it over to the left. I can’t imagine Thetford designing 2 different fridges? In fact the spec for my fridge on Thetfords own website states that the door can be reversed.

Re: Spare Fuses
Looking at those photos it should be possible to swop the door over to the other side with out removing the fridge from the unit
On my home fridge there is a peg that fits into the top of the door and housing and a bracket at the bottom that is unscrewed and swapped to the other side with a peg that the door sits on

Re: Spare Fuses
David, yes it was the 'hole for your hand' created by the offset control panel which i felt rendered the fridge 'handed'...
changing the pins and the handle are probably pretty std stuff, but not sure about the control panel....
if it were me, and not under warranty, id ask a Dometic mobile engineer for a bit of advice...but as its under warranty...
maybe, AS will sanction a mobile NCC accredited person to do it?
one could always ask....

Thanks to all - still waiting for Highland Campervans (AS Agent in the Highlands) to return call or email. have sent them the email from Peter Tombs at Auto Sleeper so hopefully they will do it under warranty. Time will tell!

Re: Spare Fuses
Hope they get it sorted for you, who on earth fits a fridge in a way that makes it pretty much impossible to get into without a great deal of faffing around......
That doesn’t need answering!!
Report back if you don’t mind, it will be interesting to hear the outcome.

Re: Spare Fuses
Two thoughts:
1. When you go to Halfords for spare fuses why not pick up a set of spare bulbs as well? These usually come in a handy plastic case (with a couple of fuses too). Useful in the UK but essential kit for travelling sur le continent.
2. Our old fridge has a plastic insert that fits into whichever hand hold isn't being used on the top of the door, thereby allowing the door to be reversible quite easily. As others have said, I'd be extremely surprised if the Thetford door wasn't reversible.
