Re: Lock Down
Just walked down the road to the Dentist with my black face mask on, well I think other people must have thought, this chap is infected.
Almost all made an effort to get out of my way, I also gave a wide berth.
Couple of women about my age just carried on walking two breast deep in chat.
Mind you, it has been known for people in the past to cross the road when they see me coming

Re: Lock Down
I had a very interesting comment from a chap I spoke to this morning.
He reckons people would have obeyed the rules far more diligently if it was young children who were most likely to have a serious or lethal infection.
The peer pressure would be on then, with a vengeance. You can just hear the women screaming at anyone without a mask who was "trying to kill my baby" . . . and rightly so.
I am not convinced about the lockdown for a number of reasons, but the best way to make it as short as possible is to obey the rules!
That's simple enough for even the most self centred and ignorant deniers to understand!

Obeying rules is how the likes of Vietnam, South Korea and dare I say China have kept infections down. The cultures of these countries is to follow rules. In UK too many view the need to wear masks as taking away their civil liberties.

Many parts of the country might be safe like Cornwall for instance but we have one hospital which runs at near full capacity at the best of times. More beds blocked by even a handful of covid patients is a major problem

Yes but what hospitals are not full or nearly full this time of Year?
Remember how much has been put off to keep the hospitals empty since first lock down. Many thousands have been waiting all through the summer/autumn for treatment/operations.
Lockdown has costs as well in lives lost for all other causes.
My treatments were put off for months as staff moved to covid19 help.
Also we asked for help and many retired nurses and doctors came back into service.
The NHS has always been the largest employer in the country. In the top five in the world up with Chinese army,Indian railways,Walmart etc
We have to manage somehow.
its difficult for sure.

Re: Lock Down
The problem of not stepping aside for people to pass wasn’t an issue when my Grandma was alive. If a lady came towards you she would say set aside or step out. If you didn’t she poked you with her stick. On one occasion I was pined to the wall and Grandad had to step into the road to let a convoy of her mates pass on route to the Coop.

Re: Lock Down
The fiasco regarding track and trace on line registration involved eleven text messages and eventually yesterday somebody phoned me. Apparently they are having problems with some of the passwords not being sent with the text. Today I got another phone call to sort out the same problem. The lady on the other end was surprised I had already been contacted. She said didn’t see the note to say I had been contacted.
Rather than being isolated in there room our daughter and boyfriend have been isolating in the Rienza on the drive. They are nice and cosy with the heating on. I ordered them a takeaway for there tea. Unfortunately she is at the no taste stage but she said she will give it a try.
I will put it on hook up tomorrow so they can use the electric heater, and be able to charge things.

The town centre was heaving today with everybody hitting the shops before they closed for a month. In the region of 50m of queue to get into Primark.
Why? People scared their knickers are going to wear out in a month?

Yes, watching the morning news running videos of the "revellers" in London having their last night out before lockdown. Usual irresponsible stuff
The first outbreak happened at a time when we were all, largely, unaware of the existence of the virus and the methods of transmission. We were all shopping, engaging in sporting and social events, going to workplaces and using public transport,
travelling in and out of the country and allowing cross infections to occur in hospital. So here we are 6 months later, everybody should know the score, what causes the virus to spread and where the dangers are. So why are the infection and death rates rising again? The only answer is that some people are not playing the game and sticking to the rules. The message is clearly not getting through at some levels.

Re: Lock Down
I am training as a psychiatrist as according to the press everyone will become mentally ill as they cant go to the pub or watch the footie for a few weeks. We were at a very quiet beach yesterday, miles of empty sand yet there they were in the car park, groups of people mostly in their 20's and 30's hugging, sharing drinks etc without a care in the World.
Called in to LIDL on the way back and a minivan pulled up, out got half a dozen obviously Eastern European workers, straight in the shop, no masks, no distancing and not one of the staff said a word to them.
As Boaby says, thick, stupid and self centred.

Just been watching the BBC news about the Teresa May report saying that the figures used for the lock down were wrong ,they had a statistician on agreeing with her and how they were wrong and out of date and that this lock down should not be happening, the news reader cut him of mid sentence saying no more time left

I don't know if the BBC are simply biased, or under pressure from somewhere to follow certain "guidelines"! They are certainly not impartial however.

I was in agreement with the 3 tier idea. Maybe could have gone to 4.
However experts want us all to suffer,so full lock down.
How long do you have to suffer? what happens next?
Too many experts i think.
How is Wales with a short lock down?

Re: Lock Down
Infections are still on the up and deaths are up to April levels but as the infection takes a couple of weeks to work through and then longer if critical care needed leading to possible death, then the figures are a couple of weeks behind. We won't know if the two week lockdown has had the desired effect for another two weeks after it ends. Once it ends on Monday a new national policy takes over (no more local lockdowns) with no travel restrictions within Wales but asked of course to keep travel to a minimum, meeting with 3 people outside your household permitted in pub/restaurant but no mixing in your home or garden. So if anyone knows why it should be safer to meet with people from 3 different households in a pub than to meet with one person in your garden, please tell me.mikethebike wrote:How is Wales with a short lock down?

Not the only ludicrous and ill considered condition Paul.Paulmold wrote:So if anyone knows why it should be safer to meet with people from 3 different households in a pub than to meet with one person in your garden, please tell me.
You can meet one person in your garden (which we can't of course, as it's obviously far more dangerous than in a potentially crowded park! )
Nowhere does it say that you can't have a succession of single visitors throughout the day, so you could be quite legally meeting several dozen every day!!
Could this possibly be an effort to ensure that certain ladies of ill repute don't have to be furloughed!!

Re: Lock Down
Sorry , I wasn't quite correct about meeting in gardens, so here's the full list...
The new rules will last for two weeks after which they will be reviewed to see if further changes can be made.
These are the new rules he announced that will come into force on Monday, November 9:
There will be no travel restrictions within Wales for residents
Two households will be able to join together to form a bubble
Only people in these extended households can meet inside their homes
There will be new arrangements to meet indoors in other settings, such as pubs, bars, cafes and restaurants
How this will work has not yet been agreed - further discussions take place on Monday afternoon
In relation to organised activity, up to 15 people can take part in an indoors activity and up to 30 in outdoors activity, providing all social distancing, hand hygiene and other Covid safety measures are followed.
All schools reopen from Monday, November 9
Business premises reopen from Monday, November 9
Places of workship can resume services and council services will resume
People should avoid non-essential travel and work from home where possible
Two metre social distancing and the need to wear masks in enclose public distancing remains in place
Mr Drakeford urged people to do as much as they could to limit their contact with other people.

Re: Lock Down
Just got my bill from EDF for dual fuel and they have increased my DD from £84 to £104 a month, what the I thought, then when I calmed down and my wife said, well come on we have been home some extra 10 weeks since Covid started.
Point taken, but I still feel cheated.
