Child top bunk on 2000 symphony/harmony
well yep I’ve just joined and I’m already scrounging for information. Shameless .
Not every van I am looking at has the over cab top bunk. Some have a cupboard. Anyone retrofitted the top bunk by removing the cupboard or found a company that could do It?
Thanks in advance.

You would be better to just view 4 berths as I think it would probably be quite expensive to retro fit.

The Harmony had a sliding sectional bunk which slid into and stored above the cab. Quite where you the stored bedding and everything else for 2 adults and, perhaps 2 children is beyond me!.
I know, we, briefly, had one, also found it impossible to get comfortable at all on the lower beds, either as singles or a double.
Not wishing to put you off, but there must be many better vehicles for 2 plus 2?

Thanks for the quick replies.
I have seen the across front door cabin beds before , I currently have a custom made bed for the front seats of our current van a Nissan , but it’s a little bit of a storage faff so I was looking for something more premade .
Quite agree from what I have seen , although never slept in one I can’t believe that the above cabin area could accommodate anything other than a young child and then use that area as a bedding store during the day .
IanH : can you provide any more info on why you found the beds so uncomfortable . As I say I have only looked so not slept on them . My observations were that as two singles they were ridiculously narrow but seemed comfy pulled out in the double with maybe adding a thin SIM air bed and mattress topper ? Like I say I will be led by those who have suffered on the beds !

Hi Halfnomad
The 2 single beds are formed by pushing both cab seats fully forwards then fully reclining the backrests. The fixed habitation seating then does much the same to create two circa 6ft long single beds. Consequently there are 3 "dips" on each, one between the cab seat base and backrest, one between the backrest and the hab seat base, and the third between the lower and upper parts of those seats.
We tried the following.............
1 Nothing, they were very uncomfortable and, unavoidably, narrow. Not much vertical room for the lower legs under the steering wheel also.
2 We bought 2 thin air mattresses, deliberately thin from a storage point of view. We tried these on the lawn and they were quite good. In the MH however they proved next to useless and kept sliding out sideways during the night.
3 We cut up an old memory foam mattress, 2" thick, into strips about 2" wider than the seats, this too proved useless, worse, they then took up the very limited storage space above the cab.
We then tried all 3 of the above with the bed made up as a double, equally ineffective.
In a nutshell, I found the ultimate best solution was to sell it and buy another Warwick Duo!
Not very positive, I'm afraid, but hope this helps in some way. I'm sure other owners of Harmony's will be along with differing views as is always the case on a forum!!

Re: Child top bunk on 2000 symphony/harmony
Some great info here
Frankly convinced me after the briefest of looks that the Harmony with the use of front seats is indeed a rubbish idea.
The symphony doesn’t seem to need this front seat use when making up a double .
Anyone ever slept on the just the pulled out bench as a small double as I make it about four feet wide ?

See above, double equally bad and very difficult to assemble/make-up if you can't get outside van, think rain! Would be near impossible if the upper "bed" was already in place too.

Mmmm...this is difficult as obviously one of the few things you can’t test before you buy his sleeping comfort .

Of course the Harmony is about 2 feet shorter than the Symphony/Symbol. The double bed in the Symbol is 5'10" x 5'10" and the overcab bed is 6'1" x 4'8"
