Thetford Fridge 4000n series not cooling
Dear Forum members,
We have our new Fairford Plus van and loving the first campervan experience with the only frustration being the fridge which appears to be faulty. I have tried it on 240v and Gas and the fridge / freezer box just aren’t cooling. On gas currently.
The instructions have been followed to the letter and lights for source selection / confirmation and cooling level working as expected. When on gas I can hear the ignition and sound of flame on. Additionally I can feel heat / warmth from the top External vent suggesting something is happening.
I’m awaiting our van suppler calling us but they’ve not called yet, however I think the position feels a little terminal.
Would greatly appreciate any thoughts from experienced members on potential fixes or who have had a similar issue with this type of fridge.
If you have a minute to send on your thoughts that would be great
Loving our new van but the warm beer isn’t great
Best regards to everyone

Brand new van? If it were mine I would not touch it, other than to tell the supplying dealer to fix it. That's what the warranty is for, and there's a risk (albeit small) that if you try to do anything yourself you will void the warranty on whatever you work on.
I should add that when my Celex was brand new, the Waeco fridge in it had appalling performance. Although I'm very much into fixing things myself, I took the van back to the dealer who took it out, bench tested it and found that it was faulty from the factory. They replaced it with new.

As Roopert says straight back. I only hope you bought it from a local dealer.

It sounds as if you have read the instructions and followed them.
Just one question though - did the external vents come with winter covers and if so are they already in place? If they are, then this could impede proper operation at current temperatures.

Brackjo... just a thought,is the van level as being on an angle can affect the fridge performance?
If it’s not that hope you have a quick fix so you can get on and enjoy your new van

Re: Thetford Fridge 4000n series not cooling
Hi All
Thanks for the feedback and views.
I’ll look to make this a response to cover the appreciated comments from all.
I agree if this is terminal in nature the fridge will be going back for repair/ replacement and unfortunately it’s a circa 100mile round trip.
The kicker is we have another outing booked and paid for next week, so this might end up being cancelled!!
Yes Roger the van came with vent covers, but these are safely stored in the van and haven’t been required as the temp is relatively warm, but an excellent consideration.
MSC we are 95+% level and certainly no different from other Auto-Sleepers on the site, who don’t look to be checking their vent like I have !!
I really do think the fridge is U/S and will need replacing.
I’ve read the instructions and they are fairly simply so don’t think I’m doing the setup wrong. But maybe I’ve missed something!
It’s turn on, select source, confirm source, select and confirm cooling level and that’s it. All confirmed and away it should go.
May as well turn it off and save the gas!!
Thanks for comments so far.
Cheers
