Symbol 2008 Empty Symbol 2008

Post by piggy123 Sun Jul 26, 2020 10:46 am

Hi all,

Just taken delivery of a 2008 symbol. I can't for the life of me find out the ECU I have found the PSU but not the ECU, thats indeed whether it has one. If not where are all the habitation fuses.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry thats a bit confusing. I have not got a owners manual for the van and AS only have a 2009 manual available to download. Which states that it is fitted with an EC155 control unit. My van has a PSU unit fitted with trip switches. If this be the case where are the habitation fuses located.

I've never owned an A/S of that age (ours have all been older) but I recall that if the control panel has trip switches (i.e. on/off switches with a Reset function built-in) then they are the fuses - the switches are a combined switch and circuit breaker.

However, I would still expect to find a separate set of fuses for the fridge and split charge function, and these are ~usually~ fitted close to the engine battery. There should also be a fuse close to the leisure battery - often an inline fuse dropped down so that it's hard to find.

But.... there are lots of variations from on A/S build to the next...

Are you having problems, or are you just trying to figure out what is where on your new van?

If memory serves, around 2008 contact breaker panels started being fitted to caravans around that time, instead of fuses, though as Roopert suggests there were still a few inline fuses left.

I am not sure what a Symbol is like but the EC155 has both mains miniature circuit breakers and 12v system fuses. The circuit breakers at top right, the 12v fuses lower left. They are all labelled. There is another remote box with a few more 12v fuses which I suspect has something to do with the habitation door step. The EC155 data and manual is available on the Sargent web site.
