2016 Warwick Duo HD
Hi all, we have had our van since December, so only been out for day trips and a couple of short breaks so far. Has anyone successfully removed the freezer box from the fridge, and if so, how? The problem is that the fridge is on the offside behind the drivers seat and the door will not open far enough for the freezer box to clear the door fitments. Alternatively, is there any way anyone has found that I can carry milk upright in anything larger than a one pint container? Thank you

Hi
Welcome to the forum from Bridington, haven't removed our freezer door etc,so unable to advise.
Should be a fridge booklet in with the pack of instructions? Plenty of Warwick owners on the forum,so you should get some help shortly.

Re: 2016 Warwick Duo HD
Most fridges can have the door opening in either direction. Would rehanging the door to open other way help?
Is your fridge a Dometic or Thetford - may help be correct help?
What's a Warwick Duo 'HD'? Not heard of the HD.

Paul's suggestion beat me to it.
Can I suggest you give a clue in the title. It would help you get more useful replies.
Just stating the model of your van tells us nothing!

Yes, placing the post in 'Van Conversions is fine.Gromit wrote:Paul's suggestion beat me to it.

The van you run is usually mentioned in your profile box to the left of a post, so to gain the attention of relevant folk the title saying something like 'Freezer Removal' or 'Fridge Issues' will gain the attention more easily. You could repeat the model of van in the first sentence of the post if you want, just to be sure.

Re: 2016 Warwick Duo HD
If your fridge is a Dometic, what's the problem, we can get 2x 4 pints of milk + 2x 1ltr of water in the tray on the fridge door with no problem and up right.
As said above, never heard of an HD duo and may I ask why you want to remove the freezer box?
A bit more info would not go amiss. We are here to help.

Looks like "sleeper 1" has asked a question and gone or still asleep
Time will tell.
I wonder if they meant the freezer box in the bottom of the fridge or the whole freezer compartment box up top. If the freezer/salad box, it just pulls out to one side. Freezer box, what about the pipes?

I believe you can remove the ice box on some fridges turning them into larder fridge. But I don't see what that's got to do with fitting milk bottles in.

Re: 2016 Warwick Duo HD
I don't think a fridge has a freezer box at the bottom. A chill drawer for fruit/veg is usual. The freezer box is usually at the top and in caravan/motorhome fridges the finned chiller unit is behind it. That's what freezes the box contents and chills the rest of the fridge. Removable freezer boxes were introduced on some fridges about 10 years ago, so you can increase the chilling capacity and make it a larder fridge. It's easy to do because the freezer box has no pipes or wires connecting it to the 'workings'.

Re: 2016 Warwick Duo HD
Could the milk bottle issue be anything to do with the shelves in the door, I wonder. We leave a shelf out in order to maximise storage in the bottom door shelf. They are adjustable. Just a guess

That is probably his problem. I have no difficulty storing 4 pint/2 litre milk in the door.
Unless the door can open passed 90 deg the top freezer bit can't be removed. Changing the door hang side needs a new door and a lot of faff.

Yep, removing a door shelf allows taller items to be stored in the bottom shelf. Like you, a 4pt bottle plus other odds and ends is no problem.
The salad drawer removes easily but won’t improve bottle storage.
The freezer... I don’t believe it’s removable on our model. Generally, removable freezer boxes tend to be half width rather than the full width version, I think.

Re: 2016 Warwick Duo HD
The freezer box on my 2011 dometic is full width, two slide catches on underside to lock/unlock, but door must be >90 deg to allow it to slide out.

Not on my Dometic fridge, dead simple, door is exactly the same on right or left and simply needs hinge pins swapped.PLOUGHLIN wrote:

What about the internal lock/light and top door open button on opposite side to hinges? Your fridge may be an earlier type, not one of the later "much improved" models.

Door lock is a slide in centre and there is no internal light. Open button? - just pull the finger slots on top edge (one each side, truly reversible).PLOUGHLIN wrote:What about the internal lock/light and top door open button on opposite side to hinges? As I said not one of the "much improved" models.

Re: 2016 Warwick Duo HD
Hi all, thank you for your replies. New to this, so sorry that I had not posted correctly, will do better next time!
The Warwick Duo HD is 'Half Dinette', so there is an option to place the pedestal table on the offside by removing a seat cushion.
The fridge is a Dometic, and I understand the mechanics of removing the top freezer box, its just that it will not come out as the door cannot be opened further than 90deg. So I guess the only option is to remove the door, or alternatively remove a shelf in the door to fit in a larger milk container.
Thanks all for your comments.

The half-dinette is a new one on me. Was it a special for you or a prototype that never went into production? Sounds a good idea except losing storage under bench which is tight anyway.
I think most of us have removed a shelf in the door or you could remove the salad box and lower the next shelf. Personally we couldn't be without the freezer box.

Re: 2016 Warwick Duo HD
The original post mentioned that Sleeper had only had the van since December and it's a 2016 model. So unless converted to the half dinette layout since December, it couldn't have been a special for Sleeper. I guess it's most likely to have been an original by A/S, rather than an after market change, but not sure, if you were ordering a new van, how you'd get them to agree to modify the layout, or under the current management even to consider such a project.

Re: 2016 Warwick Duo HD
It is not a special order model, but rarer than the usual Warwick Duo I believe. We like it as there is that extra option for dining. You do 'loose' a little storage, but there is still a gap between in which we slide a box with electric leads etc and that makes them easy to access when we arrive on site. Horse for courses as they say!

It's not listed as an option on the current Warwick Duo webpage.

We were offered a half dinette when we ordered our 2015 van but never saw it in any brochures, or indeed in the flesh.

Re: 2016 Warwick Duo HD
I am pleased to read what HD means, as we have that layout in our van and very useful it is too. Never knew what it was called so I have learnt something!
Never a problem with loosing some storage, as we can put a plastic box in the area or sometimes I take an extra gas cool box and it fits snug as a bug.
It suits us. There is always some one to slag it off and find fault because it is different to theirs. We would't be without the cut out. We bought it that way brand new in 2016, the dealer did offer to send it back to AS for a refit, but we loved it as it was.
Thank you Sleeper 1 for the info, hope you get the fridge sorted.
