Nuevo ES 2004 Strange Pipe
I was under my van the otherday and I noticed a ZigZag metal pipe. With every intention to trace it next day, but it has rained ever since, so I thought I would ask the huge knowledge base on here if anyone knows what it is?, The vehichle is a Peugeot Boxer 2.2 Hdi. No Aircon. if this helps
Thanks in advance

you could be right it could be to make the front brake pipes the same length or a vent pipe from fuel tank

I can't begin to imagine what that is, when you said zig-zag, I assumed a dog-leg!
Where about is it, front, back? Can you trace it where from & where to? Diameter, steel, copper etc.

Re: Nuevo ES 2004 Strange Pipe
I suppose it could have some bends in it to stop some sort of harmonic vibration producing noise, but a straight pipe clipped somewhere would do that and be cheaper. You'd think that the bends and extra material involved would have either a structural or a process reason for being there.

Re: Nuevo ES 2004 Strange Pipe
A thought.
Has your van got any additional gauges on the dashboard anywhere, only sometimes such gauges come with a length of tubing and a normal DIYer wouldn't have the equipment necessary to shorten and re-make the connection at either of the ends. So the only option is to 'concertina' the extra length up somewhere in the middle of the run.

No extra's as far as I can see, and this looks professionally fitted, Like I said I'll try and photograph it and trace it.

Re: Nuevo ES 2004 Strange Pipe
Bigger piping than I imagined.
It has to be either oil or water, too big for brakes. But why would oil or water be sent on such a convoluted route there and back again. Cooling doesn't make sense as the water has a radiator for that and such piping gives very little cooling effect anyway. It might be part of an EGR system, but why so long?

Not factory fitted, I thought that, but can't find a switch, I will have another look, but it's not easy to see if there is a pump, and can't see anything on the rad.

Re: Nuevo ES 2004 Strange Pipe
The very first post says there is no aircon and I don't think cabiar was even possible on '04 Boxers/Ducato's. It only became possible with the change of chassis to the X250 which A/S appear to start using in '07.

No need to apologies, I said no Factory fitted Air Con, does not mean no aftermarket, however if it is then they hid the switch really well

Could be oil cooling for power steering, pipe looks about the right size.

Yes, it's a very cheap and not very effective fuel cooler. VW fit a small finned aluminium radiator under the T5's floor instead.

I was following a similar path trawling through the parts lists but got distracted - well done for finding it.

Re: Nuevo ES 2004 Strange Pipe
OK, I'll ask the obvious question, why would you need to cool fuel?
As said it must be fairly ineffective anyway, given that if the tank is cold, it's not going to get any colder running through that pipe and if the tank is warm there'll be precious little cooling going on as it'll be warm under the van too.

Re: Nuevo ES 2004 Strange Pipe
It is in the return feed back to the fuel tank so after the high pressure pump which would raise the temperature and after passing through the rail on top of the engine also raising the temp.
Difficult to see making something like that is cheaper than a finned cooler.
