Rear Parking Sensors
Has anybody retro fitted or can recommend rear parking sensors. Barering in mind our Symbol has a metal rear bumper and by all acounts some kits are suitable for plastic bumpers only.
Cheers JB.

Re: Rear Parking Sensors
Hello jaybee3946. I fitted this:

to our 2003 Symbol. It works OK even with a towball fitted. BUT you do have to be very careful where you place the sensors. There is a steel strengthening bar behind the bumper cover. There are 2 sensitivity settings but as my bike wheels hang down over the sensors it makes very little difference which one I use.

Re: Rear Parking Sensors
I fitted mine into the plastic "bumpers" on the rear doors as the instructions said they had to be above a certain height. Must get around to fitting the front sensors sometime

Re: Rear Parking Sensors
Hi
Over the past few years I have fitted them on a fair few vehicles including Trident,Duetto, and my Executive.
Wouldn't be without them.
The cost about £20, for the Basic ones, and I find those all I require, and there are plenty on offer on Ebay.
Fitting is very easy, provided, you can gain access to one of the rear light clusters.
Go for it,
Andy

Re: Rear Parking Sensors
Do you have a bike rack on the Executive Andy ?
I have thought about sensors on the van for awhile. Our car has them fitted and they start warning you at 12 ins but on the van the bike rack sticks out greater than that ??

Hi Roli.
I have fitted the cheaper type sensors on my Executive. Fitted them onto the rear stabilizing jacks they fit a treat next to the winding nut.
When reversing up to a wall or such like they take me back until the roof access ladder is about a foot away from the wall.
Cheers. Whisky.

Re: Rear Parking Sensors
Hi JB
I got mine from Maplin the kit comes with the correct size hole cuttter for the sensors, a bit pricey compared to some at nearly £40 but it works well and the display gives distance in metres and centimetres.
This was as a replacement for the original system which I assume had been fitted by AS who had mounted the box of electronic gubbins where it was affected by water ingress and ceased to function , so ensure you mount the gubbins box in a dry location.
Cheers John.

Re: Rear Parking Sensors
Thanks guys for the info, will look at when we get back off hols. The distance display seems a better idea than a buzzer as I can mentally add the couple of foot on for the rack.
Unfortunately the corner steadies are not as accessible as the Executives, all sorts was attached to them, like the SpareLine to blow the spare tyre up, earthing point for the amateur radio equipment etc

Hi Roli,
The benefit of the Buzzer is that you can look around and listen.
The accuracy of the sonar sound is remarkable.
Plus, there is less faffing about with lights etc fitted in the cab, which I think are unnecessary.
Because my wife is now disabled she cannot now act as my guide and lookerout so I have to trust the sound bleeps. And sofar they have been wonderful.
I have also fitted them to the cars of three of our widowed neighbours, and I am their hero

Re: Rear Parking Sensors
Thanks for the comments Andy. I am ok with the buzzer on the car cos I know the sensors are built in to the bumper and have learnt to trust its short buzzes at around 12 ins then continous when I need to break.
What I am having problems with in my mind is, I mount the sensors on the back of the van and yes it would work just like the car,,, but if the bike rack is out there is another couple of foot length the the sensors dont know about if its in its still over 12 ins longer. Forgive me if if I am a bit thick understanding the things but I have only had them on the car since December

Reversing sensors
Hi All,
I have posted some photos of my setup on technical chat, this method may help Roli to mount his on the bike rack.
