Clicking noise
Hi,
My Auto sleeper Symbol has been stood for a few weeks. Set off today for a short run. I can hear a clicking or tapping noise from outside on the drivers side. It gets faster when I drive faster. Cannot see anything loose. Any Ideas?

Re: Clicking noise
I had that once while in France, bit of a concern, until a local garage found a small stone in the disc caliper, took a bit of sign language but we got there.
Is it when you brake, or as Paul say's could just be a stone in the tyre, hope it's not a nail!

Hi [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] The clicking/tapping noise is there all the time, not just when braking. as I said it seems to get faster when I go Faster.
Hi, [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]. I shall check if a stone in the tyre, but it does not sound like that.

Re: Clicking noise
A twig stuck on the inside of the wheel catching on the brake calliper? Something wound round the driveshaft? I'd stick a trolley jack under each side, lift it clear of the ground and spin the wheel by hand.

Re: Clicking noise
Hi,
I took it to a garage, it stopped on the way and they could not find anything but did not appear to have taken the wheels off. Plastic straps holding on wheel trims still in place.
Of course it started again on the way home.

Re: Clicking noise
I used to work at a place that had a lot of residents and an access road, one resident had a motorhome that he hardly ever moved. On the rare occasion it did move the tyres used to make all major of clicking noises which I suspect was because they were failing from age and standing. Just a thought, how old are your tyres?

Thanks Toffee, but I don't think its the tyres. Two are new and the other two look fairly new with lots of thread.

Re: Clicking noise
The two which "look fairly new with lots of tread" may well not be.
Google "TYRE DATING", there is a four digit number on the sidewall, something like 1813, that means that tyre was made in week 18 of 2013.

Maybe a bit late now, but I had similar on a car. The balancing weights on steel wheels kept coming loose. they were changed twice before it stopped happening. More often than not they were hard to move by hand but you could see that they were moving as the wheel was clean either side of the weight.

some brake pads have backing on them and with age this comes away .you need to remove the wheel and check the pads
