How does Sorn work, do you get a refund?
Not that I have any intention of doing such a thing, answers might help others to choose.

Re: Sorn motorhome
You get each unused month refunded (takes 4/5 weeks for cheque to arrive). When you're ready to go back on the road, you simply re-tax it online which means you can be back on the road within minutes. In my case the van was taxed until end of November so I'll get April, May, June,July,August, September, Oct and November refunded for now (something like £160) If we can use again from July (fingers crossed) then I'll tax it from beginning of July. At least it will separate Tax and MOT which were always due at same time.

Re: Sorn motorhome
Can't decide??
On the one hand a run round the block once a month will do it good.
On the other hand, if it was at a dealer's it wouldn't be run at all, and I doubt if I would think of that when I went in to buy it. Many vans will have stood for a long time before being purchased anyway.

Re: Sorn motorhome
Thank you both, that clears the issue up.
I think this forum will be full of members in a few moths asking about flat batteries, the breakdown people will be busy.
We live in a narrow road with street parking under permit, I am one of the lucky ones with a wide driveway and have EHU+solar. Have not seen any cars move at all this week.
Thanks again Paul and Dave.

Re: Sorn motorhome
Did ours today. As I understand the conditions you only get a refund for whole months so leaving it to the 1st April means losing out.
Also connected it to timed hook up to keep the batteries charged in addition to solar.
Rich..

Re: Sorn motorhome
With fuel prices back to pre EU vote levels we had a little run to Fleetwood to get our daily compulsory exercise. Too few people about to get anywhere near the 2 metre rule. Won't be claiming SORN while we still allowed to run the van.

I thought the rule was to start your daily exercise from your home.

I think I read in the BBC guidance that you could travel by vehicle go somewhere quiet for exercise. If we all did it from home keeping the 2 metre rule would be more difficult,

Just read some more on this and it seems we should stay close to home. Fleetwood is 5 miles away.

France has a limit for exercise/dog walking of 1000m from home. Spain is even closer.

Re: Sorn motorhome
The authorities here in the Peak District are telling us it's not necessary to drive when going for a walk.
Six of my seven vehicles are now on SORN and will stay that way for the foreseeable future. According to one pundit on the radio today, we could face restricted travel for the rest of the year, but I think they were talking about visiting other countries, not travel within the UK.

Re: Sorn motorhome
As supermarket deliveries are impossible to get around here, I intend to use the van to go and get an order from a "click and collect" slot, maybe go for SORN later.

Can't even get a click and collect slot here. Only Tesco do it here, others at least 12 miles away if I could get a slot.burlingtonboaby wrote:As supermarket deliveries are impossible to get around here, I intend to use the van to go and get an order from a "click and collect" slot, maybe go for SORN later.

Re: Sorn motorhome
Provided it is stored SORNed at your declared location, I don't see that there should be any problem. Hope so too as it is what I do every Nov-Mar period , insured with Comfort.

Comfort have just returned my email.......
Good afternoon Mr Robinson,
Thank you for your email, we hope you are well.
If you were to SORN the vehicle, insurance cover will still remain in place as normal. There will just be no cover for road use until the vehicle is put back on the road.
Kind Regards
