Chocolate with added salt
They are all at it, adding salt to chocolate, yuc, and when I'm on this subject salted caramel too, yuc.
On a tastier note we were recently given some free Mika aero-type chocolate when booking in at a Premier Inn (Kemerton XL, no habitation electrics, dead EC700 panel, visit SMC Newark).
Memories, SMC were helpful, we enjoyed the Milka chocolate, Palace Theatre and adjacent Civil War museum enjoyable and informative.
I'll be looking out to buy some Milka chocolate in future.

Brakspears still available but hasn't been brewed by Brakspears in Henley for sale decade or more. Brewed at Hook Norton Brewery ever since Henley closed. The local pint of my youth with lots of hops, not quite the same taste these days.
As for putting salt in stuff, sweets are bad enough for you anyway, so why put more salt in when we're supposed to be cutting down on that too.

Re: Chocolate with added salt
We've recently been introduced to Linda dark chocolate with salted caramel and it is absolutely delicious.
One small square with an afternoon coffee is the very occasional treat.
As an aside, a friend of mine some time back had a nasty bicycle accident.
He's recently attended hospital for physio sessions and one doctor has told him to eat dark chocolate.
Thinking his wife wouldn't believe him, he asked for (and was provided) it in writing!

I quite enjoyed salted caramel when it first appeared but (like most food fads) it has been completely overdone.
As for beer, a decent pint of hand pulled IPA is always good but don't get me started on these craft beers with a "hint of this" or "aroma of that"

Re: Chocolate with added salt
Was the dark chocolate supposed to help heal the accident injuries, improve his mental ability to cope with getting back on a bike, improve his reaction times to avoid future accidents, improve his balance, to make him feel happier about his injuries or because the doctor had shares in chocolate manufacturers?

Not necessarily Andy.steamdrivenandy wrote:There's a man with more self control than me.
It might be the same as in our house. Sian knows I have zero self control over chocolate (biscuits are worse!!) so if/when we have any she hides it, and hands out the meagre rations at infrequent intervals.

I do the shopping so I make sure supplies of chocolate biscuits are kept in, including the emergency rations at the back of the top shelf that Helen can’t see.

I do the shopping too, but always feel guilty buying biscuits, chocolate, or indeed chocolate biscuits. Chris won't eat biscuits, so I get a free run at them.

I am now understanding why Mr Lancy likes to do some of the cooking as we have avoided divorce so far by the ‘who cooks, shops for that meal’ ....off to check our out of reach cupboardsMike187 wrote:I do the shopping so I make sure supplies of chocolate biscuits are kept in, including the emergency rations at the back of the top shelf that Helen can’t see.

I do most of the cooking and baking in our household as well, so those Hobnobs, Chocolate Digestive, Amaretti and Oreo biscuits on that top shelf are there just in case I want to bake a cheesecake and need them for the base!

I bought some Aldi Digestives last Friday. The biscuit jar has been empty since Tuesday morning. I blame the dogs.

Meagre rations!
That's twice as much as I'm allowed.

Re: Chocolate with added salt
Ha! Things have been looking up ever since Dr Michael Mosley wrote, in one of his health books to which Mrs C is an adherent, that dark chocolate (greater than 60%) is good for you. Lidl do an excellent selection. A square or two with Newsnight is ideal.
Doesn't really go well with an Islay.
But no added salt. Dr Mosley disapproves, if I recall correctly.

Re: Chocolate with added salt
I do like a dark chocolate but Aldi (or was it Lidl?) had a 95% bar so I couldn't resist - it was like chewing a cocoa bean! I think 70% is about right. Lidl from today have some Mackie's chocolate bars, milk, dark, honeycomb crunch and mint, all 99p. I'm resisting them at moment, don't know how long I'll let them stay unopened!

Salt with chocolate is just wrong.

Cart D’Or ice creams remind me of shaving foam ... not that I’ve ever eaten shaving foam
