Solar power
Hi Folks,
My Warwick XL solar charging works fine for domestic batteries but I can’t seem to get it to charge starter battery, is there a change over switch ? Or maybe this is not possible on current set up. Vehicle is 2016 model Fiat Ducato based.
Cheers
Mike

Re: Solar power
Do you have the EC500 PSU? Have you got "Smart Charging" enabled?

Re: Solar power
Mike, is your EC500 shutdown?
In addition to the "solar charge" advanced setting (which I think is mentioned above), the EC500, when in it's shutdown state, will only send solar charge to the Leisure battery, even if solar charging is set to smart or vehicle.
To be clear, this means that no charge is sent to Vehicle battery if the shutdown button is out.

Re: Solar power
Good question, we have been using the van on a regular basis so I doubt it’s been set to shutdown I’m assuming when button is out it’s in shutdown mode.

Not according to the Sargent Smart Charging guide. The PSU must be switched on. The Smart Charging gude can be downloaded here. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Re: Solar power
If you have the EC500 PSU, switched off the solar will only go to the leisure battery.
If the EC500 is on AND Smart is enabled the system charges the lower charged battery for 4 hours then switches over to other battery. The system continues to alternate between them in SMART mode. The system could have been set to charge only leisure or only vehicle also.
At this time of year solar power is quite low though.
Some put a separate solar panel connected direct to the vehicle battery while in storage.

The EC500 shutdown button must be in, before there is any chance of the EC500 sending solar charge to the Vehicle battery.
When EC500 is in it's shutdown state (button out), it will only send solar charge to the Leisure battery, even if solar charging is set to smart or vehicle. (as I said before)
If your shutdown button is in then check the solar charge settings, then fuses.

Re: Solar power
Have you got access to EHU, I find it helps at this time of year. Otherwise if set up as Gordon0 says above that's the way it works.
When button is out, it is off and nothing is lit up on the charger panel, blue lights.
Please do the download as mentioned as it will explain how the setup works, I hope.
